Guess who didn't realise the Warring weather GB had started, got into building this then read the start date, so here we go the Revell 1/72 Tornado none warring weather GB GR1, building this using up the remnants of a Flight Path detail set I bought ages ago now just to refine some of the softer details offered in the kit. The kit is showing it's age a bit there is quiet a bit of flash and there is annoying distortion and warping in some pretty major parts namely the intakes and the fuselage lower half. The cockpit is fairly well detailed out of the box this is sprayed using Humbrol matt 87 thinned with cellulose thinners and then the decals added using sol and set solutions and a hair drier to get them to settle into all of the gauges and dials, the remaining details then picked out with Humbrol Satin Black. I am using the resin nose section from the detail set so the fuselage was modified with a razor saw following the Flight path guide for cutting, this adds quiet a lot of weight on the front end, but before joining the cockpit halves I added 25gms of weight using self adhesive wheel balance weights placed between the cockpit floor and the bottom fuselage.
Wing assembly is straight forward and the wings are moveable from the straight out to swept position. Tail stabilizers are a bit flimsy the way they join to the fuselage so these were glued for better security despite Revell saying not to glue, top and bottom rear fuselage joined after fixing the wing gaiters in place, again no issue here. The issues start here!!! joining front and rear fuselages, the lower rear portion was warped inwards preventing the front cockpit part joining, so I cut some plastic 6mm diameter tubing gut to 35mm lengths to act like pit props to force the lower deck into shape.
Second issue and nigh on impossible to fix satisfactorily was the warped side pods, have got these together to the best of my ability may cover them with some scratch built F.O.D covers. Various etch bits added front wheel bay doors and some of the antenna and probes, next up will be to mask the cockpit off and get some primer on prior to paint.

Looking good so far.

Day off work today was really peeved that it was throwing it down with rain all day had to get stuck in with the Tornado again instead of cleaning the block paving washing the conservatory windows mowing the lawn and washing the car, never mind.
Finished off adding the bits that could be added before paint goes near it, and built the weapons load, it will be prickly this one. Got 2 coats of Black primer on.

Next will be to seal the grey, before masking off for the green cammo, hopefully it will be raining on Sunday when I;m off again

Good progress Gary, looking good

Day off today and what a scorcher 26 degrees and now its too hot to mow the lawn wash the conservatory and the drive way, forced to do modelling instead, never mind, , blasted a layer of Alclad Aqua Gloss over the grey, in this weather dried rock solid in 20 minutes then got out the Gunze MR Hobby 330 Dark Green thinned down by about 60% with Gunze leveller, then free handed the cammo needs tidying up in places and will need to get the grey out again and just tighten up a few areas get the lines a little sharper, but overall pretty pleased with the result.

The Tornado continues, cammo clear coated, weapons assembled, primed and painted, just the detail bits to do, which will be brush painted, and the smaller details such as the metal elements on the tail and the exhaust cans are now painted, just the undercarriage and the canopy and the seats to do then all those darn stencils and the main decals to go on.
Here is where it's at for now.

Continuing with the Tonka, now sitting on it's wheels and the some final fitment of parts gear bay doors and air brakes masked up the canopy, inside and out ready for spraying, radome and anti glare panel masked and painted, just the bang seats to do undecided whether to use the Aires resin ones or the kit ones, then the marathon decaling to begin.

Gary some nice progress there

Thanks Antonio, still plodding on with it, got the canopy sprayed difficult bit was masking off the canopy detonation chords, used Valejo masking fluid for this fiddly bit, masked inside and out sprayed the detonation chords in light grey, masked them off then sprayed Tamiya X18 Black, ocanopy exterior airbrushed with the green and grey cammo colours. painted and detailed the ejector seats, used the white metal ones that come in the Flightpath detail set, and started the main decals, now just the stencils to go on and the weapons and payload to decal and finish off.














On the home straight now, then finish off the Sea Vixen build for the GB
