while i am waiting for my decals to go white for the ducati 888 i have started a new kit so here my progress coments and tips welcombe

Regular production line going here mate love those exhausts very very realistic great job, just a word on the paint call out by Tamiya the body work is not metallic blue as called for the real colour is closest to Mr Hobby H5 blue it was a solid blue.
Those cans really are good mate very impressed

Hi gary hope your well thanks for comments has for paint i got zero paints which is a 2 pack with a base layer of silver then a blue over the top it will be interesting to see how it turns out nearly finnished the ducati try and put pics up the wk end all the best paul

loving how you did the "blueing" for the titanium exhaust welds, haven't tried this myself and was wondering if you could maybe tell me what paints you used and roughly how you went about it, although I can guess some of it as have watched a few videos, i haven't yet seen anyone carry it off as well yet. looks like you've done a nice base silver then possibly some clear blue and some smoke? then highlighted the tops of the welds with gold?

just a update on progress at the moment having problems with the blue over silver its not the paint its my skill level in spraying i am considering takeing rossi aka gary advice and get some mrhobby blue

Anothes stunner paul. You guys are knocking it out the park. The cans look great and the yellow plug caps - i just couldnd get them to look right at all. Lovely job.

Thanks johnj haveing problems with the paint job at the moment a bit above my skill level,its a base coat of silver then its a very clear coat of blue which is givening me hassle has i cant keep the airbrush consistant never mind if i cant pull it off i can fall back on the mrhobby x5 blue which i have been told its very close

No not really just a bit thick got to take your time John I want to ask your advice on the real bike they don't look that glossy what would you use to probject them

You could try the tamiya semi gloss clear X-35. I've tried most of the usuall clears and keep going back to the tamiya stuff. It's been X-22 thinned 50/50 with laquer thinner on the Enzo decals.

Thanks John great help i just think sometimes things look to gloss and dont look natural I presume to get the depth you need to sand and polish but am not brave enough yet last time I give it a go iwent right through the paint so need to practice .

I know what you mean. Breaking through is a horrible thing to fix. It"s a black art knowing how much to put on. I use a tamiya 2000 grade sponge and so far i"ve been lucky., but your only as lucky as your last paint job.

Great job there Paul and nice job on those cardboard thick decals.
Just a word of caution, do not use a hot lacqeur clear coat those old Tamiya decals will melt, I recommend you use an acrylic clear such as Johnsons, or I use Windsor and Newton UV stable clear varnish, spray 3 light coats of the semi gloss then a wetter coat of the Gloss, allow 3 days drying then a light polish with 3M's final finish.
These bikes were pretty immaculate Paul so a high gloss is appropriate.

Thanks Gary your advice is very welcome I did wonder about the hot gloss .would tamiya x22 50/50 mix do the job ?

Any clear you have to dilute with a thinner runs the risk of destroying those old Tamiya decals, I only ever use a 100% Acrylic .

Do you have any spare decals from that sheet that you could experement with ? Even just for future reference.
