Hi this my next build a German Heavy 4WD Truck L 4500A

Mercedes-Benz L 4500

The Mercedes Benz L 4500 was produced from 1939 as "S" with rear axle drive and starting from 1941 as "A" with all-wheel drive. The OM 67/4 diesel engine has 6 cylinders, 7274 ccm displacement and 112 hp power. Both variants have a 5-speed manual gearbox and the A version has an additional gearbox, which could be used to connect the front axle drive. The front and rear axles are rigid and suspended on leaf springs. The L 4500 S has a weight of 4,930 kg with a payload of 4,950 kg and the L 4500 A a net weight of 5,715 kg with a maximum payload of 4,685 kg. The top speed is 66 km / h.
In contrast to the Mercedes-Benz L 3000, the L 4500 proved to be much better in use. It was also manufactured with armored cabin and flak as well as half-engine L 4500 R "Maultier". From 1943, the car body was massively simplified, the arched fenders were replaced by simpler ones and later the unitary cab was used. In this form, he was also produced again after the Second World War. In later versions, the bumper was omitted. The bodywork of this 4500 S comes from the post-war period.


Made up the engine I will be adding some more detail later




Made up the wheels and add missing tyre valves

Hi got a bit more done last night and this morning

Cut in wooden planks and nail holes, add hing pins to the side hinges






Made up floor chassis rails, stowage bin and s/wheel carrier


Made up lower chassis rails

Hi built the F/R suspension, axles, prop shafts, exhaust and fitted them to the lower chassis rail

Hi started work on the cab




Did some detailing to the engine, fuel injector pipes from pump to injectors, top water pipe to rad, pipes to A/tank

Moved on a bit with the truck

Add a bit of detailing to the rear w/arches ,made some tie down hooks, add detail to the fire wall





Now onto the paint

All models are hand painted

Hi Pete,
Been looking at this kit and your build and I can not for the life of me spot the fuel tank or filler cap. I'm then started thinking where is the battery, but that could be under the seats, under the bonnet or in the box under the tray. Somewhere not seen, but the feul tank should be visible and reasonably large. Some trucks had them under the seats with the filler cap stuck out through the wall of the cab. Did I not see properly or did Zvezda forget it ?

Hi Ian the fuel tank is under the seat there is a drawing in German Transport of WWII by Milsom whch shows the battery it next to the fuel tank

Thanks Pete nice pic, although still not sure where the filler cap would be located. Did they have to flip the seat up or was it done from the out side and
did Zvezda leave it out the fuel tank support brackets for the kit.

Great job Pete, I do love a truck.
BTW as your stuff is all hand painted I wondered what Primer you use,
