Hi Guys

Finished my pilot. Resin kit, painted with Vallejo primer, Tamiya and Vallejo paints for the body, Scale 75 flesh colours for the face. Finished off with artists oils for texture, shading and washes. The base was DAS clay, primed, painted and glossed.

Absolutely brilliant , I think you have found new area to work in and got luck with the next one

Thank you kind Sir. It just makes picking the next project all the more difficult! I have a 1/9 bust of Winters from Band of Brothers, its a full torso bust with both arms and all his kit, its a beautiful thing but I'm mindful of some of the other awesome kits in my stash.

Also, its a bad move, finding a new area to work in just when I'm convinced I shouldn't be adding to the stash! There's a company called RP Models that do 3 full torso busts that I am desperate to buy. Major Howard from Pegasus Bridge, Lt Col Vandervoot from the 82nd AB and Lord Lovat. Its almost as if they saw me coming

Too right. Last time I saw my wallet it was wearing a long coat and dark glasses, standing in line for one way flight to Peru!

Fabulous work mate - you must be chuffed to pieces with the way he's turned out.

I really like the way you've captured all the various different surface effects from the fabrics on his clothing and equipment - simply stunning

Thanks mate. I loved working with all the different bits of his kit. I know a lot of figure work is about creating contrast on clothing creases but in reality, with the pilot, there wasn't a great deal of that, it was more about painting the individual layers he was wearing, one on top of the other.

I loved doing the leather work, partly because of the quality of the casting but also because I was using Vallejo Model Colour, which was new to me and is beautiful paint. I had some great reference material too so I knew exactly what colours I wanted, that helped with the authenticity side of things. As I was working, I knew it was looking right so that encouraged me to push on and keep going.

To be honest, I also loved being able to brush paint - not having to muck about with an airbrush - just being able to sit there and have a long session, switching colours and paint types and just beavering away.

You can probably tell by my reply that I ABSOLUTELY loved doing the kit and cant wait to do more figures

I know what you mean about brush painting being therapeutic and yep I've been using the Vallejo colours for a little while; if you get chance give the Andrea paints a go - I used them for the first time this year and was really impressed with them.

Thanks mate, it certainly gave me the figure bug. I'm just being stymied now by the lack of available subject matter. Oh well, back to armour - talk about first world problems
