Can anyone tell me if there is a need to rub down the gloss coat in any way prior to applying a wash? Thanks guys!

I don't think so, the whole idea is to create a smooth finish by spraying a clear coat. If it isn't too smooth perhaps there is another problem. Send pic's please.

Thanks for this. No pics yet-it was a tutorial video I was watching but I was unsure exactly what was said about this because of some sound issues! I must have misheard. Will some pics post when I get there- thanks again

Yeah, far as I know if your color layer is reasonably smooth then your gloss layers should come out pretty smooth as well. The only reason people might sand/polish it back is if a) they had some airbrush issues and need to smooth down some rough/dusty bits or b) they're going for a super shiny finish, usually for car kits.

Most gloss systems, like Alclad Aqua Gloss or Mr Color GX100 with MLT, tend to self level and unless you purposefully flood an area should come out nice and smooth.

What's worked for me is to give the whole subject a misty goat first, wait about 10-15 minutes (watch a vid or something) then come back and do a thicker layer or two of gloss. The first mist gives the second, full coat something to grab onto rather than the bare paint.
