Hkopper's Bandai MG MS-06R-2 Zaku II

Post by hkopper »

My entry for Summer Sci-Fi SIG 2017

It will a straight out the box build with the exception of aftermarket water slides. My plan is to paint the Gundam with the typical 2 tone green scheme. Here's the kit and the sprues that came in the box:

My MS-06R-2 Zaku II build has started. For this build, I chose a 2 green color scheme and will be using Mig-023 (protective green) and Mig-077 (dull green). The inner frame will receive a coat of Vallejo Metal Color 77720 (gunmetal) and VMC 77702 (duraluminium which will be dry brushed over the raised surfaces). The backpack was painted with Vallejo Model Air 71054 (dunklgrau). Here we have pix of the primed, painted and assembled portion of the main torso:

Thanks!!

Moving along with the Zaku's torso...I just finished painting and assembling the head. Here I used the same colors: gunmetal for the inner frame and protective green for the green items. I also used a lighter shade of dull green for the hose beads. After that, I started to prim all of the parts that make up the right arm (still considering to get the old Dremel out and attempt to add some damage to the shield ....that is if I can muster some courage as it could possible make this my shortest build).

Arms are in place, thus finishing the assembly of the upper torso. Here I also made my first attempt at adding battle damage to my gumpla (and having fun with my Dremel at the same time). I still need to paint the shield and spiked shoulder pad. On that note, any recommendations on the color for the shoulder pad? I wanted to steer away from the usual 2 toned green Zaku color scheme.

Oooh...I've been looking for excuses to get a dremmel. Can't wait to see that. I agree, at this scale a Zaku can be a lot more interesting with more tones of color.

Digging this...urge to build my Kampfer rising...

Looks awesome Hermann! You've probably got the shoulder armor painted by now but what about the green as usual but with some chipping showing char's red underneath...like it was meant for another suit but got repurposed? Love the battle damage! Might just have to grab a spur but and go to town on mine.

Thanks for the suggestions and kind words....just finished the left leg and decided to repaint the arms as the finish was too glossy. One unrelated problem: Photobucket decided to change the way that I am allowed to post pictures and using them would require me to shell out more money then I am willing to give them. As a result, I will have to post my images at a later time when I decide what options to use.

Well I did manage to migrate my photos from photobucket and to flickr....on the downside, the previous post are disabled due to Photobucket's new 3rd party hosting policy. I can repost theme if desired, just give the word.

The build continues and I have managed to paint and assemble the entire Zaku II. Here are some pix of the primed, painting and assembly of the left and right legs

Next on the list is a gloss coat, decals and weathering. Followed by work on the armament, shield and shoulder pad.

Thanks for watching,

Hermann.

This reminds me, I really need to start another Zaku soon. Bandai loves to crank out the variants but I'm all too happy to try and build them all.

Noticed a few shots on FB and it's starting to look like a proper warmachine :th:
