F-16A Netz, Academy 1/48

Post by mountaineermodeler »

I've been gathering up some things for this SIG for some time now. Found an Academy 1/48 F-16A/C kit on Scalemodel Graveyard FB page. (It cost less than the paint set or the decals) I wanted an F-16 in the stash anyway, it was always one of my favorite aircraft. I have also always liked the IAF desert camo scheme. Maybe its the crazy number of times I watched Iron Eagle as a kid in the 80's. Then I found this SIG and thought I could have the desert scheme on a F-16.

I ordered the IAF camo set from Ammo by Mig and an awesome decal set from Isradecal.com. They came from Israel so I feel like I am truly committed to this build. I just wanted some accurate IAF decals but they sent a fold out package with 2 sheets of insignia and numbers, a CD with photos and callouts for dozens of different IAF planes in numerous squadrons through the F-16s history. The CD gives a lot of detail on what planes have seen action in the Iraq nuclear plant attack, the Lebanon war and how many kills each had. One plane, #107 is claimed to be the most famous F-16 in the world. It has 6 1/2 kills and participated in the attack on Iraq's nuclear facility. I am leaning hard toward building that one but I will have to spend some time looking at this CD. I hope these decals go down as good as they look. If they do this is a great product with all the research info that comes with them. Stay tuned, I'll let you know.

Here are some photos, I'll more once I get building. It's the Independence Day Weekend here in the US so time is a little short. I can't wait to get started. If you have any tips or experience with any of these products, let me know.
