Phantom II FOD Guards

Hi All,

I recently picked up some of the Eduard Limited Edition Phantom II kits (the Rockin Rhino and the Good Morning and Good Evening Da Nang kits) - I just really like the look of them

I was looking at the aftermarket and found a few bits and pieces, including F.O.D. Guards for the F-4C (the version included in Good Evening Da Nang). Further research revealed that F.O.D. stands for Foreign Object Debris so is something I would have expected all versions to have, but the Eduard set is specific for the F-4C (Link to page on Eduard website)

Would these guards actually appear on all versions of the Phantom or is there was something unique about the F-4C that required them or required unique versions? Would I be safe to use the F-4C Guards on all of the versions? I'm not a rivet counter by any means but do go for realism so blatant inaccuracies would annoy me and these would be quite prominent

Unfortunately I struggling to find anything on Google :)

Hi Sheppsea

I've just come across your post.
All version of the F4 had F.O.D guards as the air intakes were the same except for the Brit versions due to the spey engines their intakes were larger. The brit F4s tended to use covers.
The gaurds you've found should fit all of the eduard kits and because they are academy reboxes they should fit those aswell but don't quote me on that.
looks like I'll have to buy a set to give it ago.
hope this helps a little

Thanks a lot Spook - that helps a lot! :)

I wonder why Eduard state F4-C for them when they're universal, surely have some sort of effect on the number they sell as people question whether they're accurate for the version they are building

They quite often come up on eBay (in the UK at least), the Good Evening Da Nangs seem to be up all the time, but the others less so (partialrly the Good Morning Da Nang)

I'm sure why Academy being the orignal manufacturer came up, but just to clarify my original question was about the FOD Guards for the real Phantoms and whether the actual F-4C had different ones, rather wheter the Eduard set would fit all the kits. My confusion was just arond Eduard calling them F4-C FOD guards when the same guards were used for all :th:
