This is my next build.
North Vietnamese MiG-17F with the following aftermarket used:-
Eduard PE cockpit set
Quickboost ejection seat
Master Model metal pitot and gun barrels
Montex canopy mask

I made 2 vietnam war adversaries before with a Navy F-4 and a MiG-21
But still have a Airforce F-4 and nothing for it to shoot down
This could be a good kit for that

The MiG-17 would make good adversary. So too would a MiG-19, which Trumpeter make in 1/48. this is mine from last year.

Cockpit tub completed.
Painted with Hataka Light Ghost Grey, and detailed with their black.
The Eduard set has really brought the best out of the somewhat bland kit supplied one. The Quickboost seat lovely, with nice crisp detailing.
A little bit of wash, and some drybrushing, and it's ready to be installed into the fuselage.

And indeed a nice adversary for a Phantom

Engine and exhaust painted, and engine installed into the rear fuselage. Note that part of the engine is seen in the airbrake opening. Painted with Vallejo Metallic Colour, and given a dark wash.
The rest of the kit is now assembled, and the Master Model pitots and gun barrels fitted.
Also finished off the undercarriage, which just needs a coat of matt, which I'll do when I coat the finished kit, at the end of the build.
The primer is applied which is Ultimate's black primer.
I've also managed to get hold of a set of Print-Scale MiG-17 decals, primarily for the stencils.

With the primer now dried fully, I've done some pre-shading with some light grey.
On some of the leading edges of the wings, tail fin, nose, and top of the fuselage, I have sprayed some dark aluminium. This is because I am going to have my first attempt at some "salt chipping". Once the aluminium has dried, i sprayed some plain water on to the ally areas, then sprinkled some sea salt. This seems to have taken well, and the excess has been bushed off. Fingers crossed it work out okay in the end.

As you can see, the camouflage is done, and its different!
The North Vietnamese had lots of varied camo schemes, but until recently I hadn't realised this one existed. So, of course, it had to be done.
Airbrushed with Hataka RedLine acrylics A042 P.R. Blue, and A505 B6 RN Medium Blue.
For the masking, I used Ammo Mig's masking putty, which doesn't leave any marks on the paint.
I have also removed the salt, to reveal the metal colour underneath. I'm reasonably happy with my first attempt at this, but I know I can do better next time.
Finished off with some Alclad Aqua Gloss, and once it's dried fully, I'm ready for the decals.

All the decals have been applied. These are PrintScale's, as are the stencils.
A couple of coats more of Alclad Aqua Gloss varnish applied, and then a wash of Ultimate's Dark Dirt.

Cleaned off the Ultimate wash, and now it's starting to come alive!
So now it's time to weather it some more.

Weathering now finished.
As well as using the initial Ultimate Dark Dirt wash, I have also used Vallejo black and grey pigments. As well as that, a silver watercolour pencil is used to show some wear on some of the panels edges, and access areas.
The undercarriage legs are just dry-fitted for now.
