Hey everyone

So my bottle of tet has approx 1/3 left I her and I have got another on the shelf.
I was looking at melting some sprue chunks in the old bottle.

My question is, how thick do you guys make it?

The smart ass says as thick as you want it....not too much, not too little
I would go thinner first as easier to add TET than take away. Some more will evaporate as well

cap on and shake the proverbial out of it.....

have set it aside for now and will see how it is in the AM....

pile it up in the bottle until half the pile is not in glue, after that you adjust to your needs or mix another batch at a different constituency. You don't have to cut it up too fine 20mm bits is ok.

Our Canadian fiend has just muddied the waters... .... No don't let your glue evaporate.

One thing I forgot to add and that is the type of plastic you use for this makes a difference to the out come.I have yet to perform any real testing to confirm this, but I strongly suspect I'm right as some plastic don't take the glue as well as others. Same when stretching sprue. I have used a softer type to make my sludge. Once applied the thicker it is applied the longer it takes to completely dry. On a big job I might leave it a day.

Ahh ok

I have been using the sprue from my italeri f35, it seems reasonably soft.
I have yet to check on it this morning... im being a sloth, it's cold and freaking windy, and hey I'm on long service leave so I'm allowed to be lazy

Holy crap.... I completely missed this post digger...

So more sprue is going to be needed

Starting to thicken up a little

Added some more cut up sprue

Also removed the TET label so that I don"t have a moment and grab the wrong bottle....



Will wait till this afternoon to see how it goes thickness wise etc

So is there a better sprue brand to use ??
ie Is Tamiya sprue better than Revell
I have Evergreen thin sheets I could cut up, would that be even better??

Case in point, I did the Elf trick in the hotel's circular door thing tonight..you know where he goes round and round in it until he pukes.

A bit and a bit, I don't think there is an exact science, I made my batch when I had about 1/4 of a bottle of TET left and then I just started adding bits of sprue, chopped up into rice sized pieces, quick shake, leave it for a few hours / days, have a look at the consistency, too thin, kept adding plastic until it was the consistency I wanted.

Gary's right just add enough to your happy with the consistency. I start by just putting in enough in small bits to the pile rises about a 1cm above the glue.

Very interesting (strokes chin ), very interesting.
Unfortunately, still have 3/4 of bottle in use and a full tub in draws.
This below, has only worked on small gaps, i.e. where assembling figures in 1/35, the join between torso and legs, has a little gap / crevice .
I have tried a little trick recently, of sanding a spot above or below the small crack / crevice, leaving the plastic sanding dust in place, then using a bit of TET to wash the sanded plastic into the crevice.
It seems to work quite well, but only on small cracks.
If this is already known and in the domain, my apologies for being a goon .

Yes you are doing styrene glue in the same way sanding it into a seam...like how you seal a woodworking joint with glue and sawdust.

Cheers for the replies. I ended up making a batch out of a half bottle of TET and some cut up Pla Plate. Three 15x1cm (1.5mm) strips that I then diced up. Maybe just a bit on the thick side but I can add some more TET.
