Modelling Time

Post by bfrd »

Is it just me, or does anybody else feel like they spend half their modelling time on the floor looking for stuff that has been dropped? I swear I must be setting some sort of dumb-ass olympics record. The other half of the time is spent looking for the tool that was just in my hand prior to putting down to look on the floor.

Sometimes I feel like my hands jump on their own and cause me to drop a piece. Luckily my new apartment has a linoleum floor and I vacuum the underside after every build, so I can always find the bit that drops.

I seem to loose tools I was holding a second ago a hell of a lot :)

In terms of pieces falling on the floor, I have taken to sitting a lot closer to the desk when working with small pieces, especially PE

Absolutely
I seem to have to season each and every part on the floor at least once, if not twice
Sometimes the whole freaking model needs to have a little unintended floor swim before completion :bash:
Seriously, I drop stuff ALL THE TIME :wall:

The SWMBO thinks it mad and I shouldn't have desk. Just build everything on the floor. ;)

<stroking chin> that might work... but I your case, low to the ground just makes it easier for a dingo to eat your baby, er, model.

Oh yeah - I seem to go through phases. I can have a few sessions without dropping anything and then the tweezers sense my complacency and scattergun stuff all over the place.

And I'm another one that'll spend ages looking for what was in my hands a few seconds previously - but so far no issues with dingos.
Cheers, Neil

Dunno why this got deleted but I've been thinking of getting an apron. Something drops into my lap every session and looking under my butt for a part is getting old.

We spend considerable time at the workbench using small tools and working on very small and delicate parts. It can be very aggravating to have to stop and crawl around on the floor looking for a dropped part. An old friend who did watch repair put us on to this and its been a great help. You can make one in just a few minutes, and probably have the material on hand.
