I decided to tackle another older armor kit after the fun I had with the Panzer II, so I decided on the Tamiya 1/35 Tiger 1. This kit is another "classic" dating from the late 70's.

Assembly was very straight forward and soon had the main hull and turret ready for primer.

A coat of Badger's excellent stynylrez was then airbrushed on.

Nice start! Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Interesting choice, I've heard some rather scathing reviews of this one.

2 coats of Vallejo German Dark Yellow RAL 7028 were applied. This matched the Afrika Korps color much better than the color mix I did for the Panzer II.

You work fast! However I thought the DAK colour was an almost dark brown? (I found this after I spent a few days hand-painting a light yellow coat on a Panzer IV D, which still hurts) How did you find the old kit? Looks like the commander's cupola is a bit of a sore thumb.

She is really starting to look like she means business. Those Tamiya kits go together quickly. I just did a Tamiya Churchill Mk IV (my first Tamiya kit) and it went together so much faster than any of the Dragon kits I have done. I just may focus on all of my Tamiya kits just to clear out my stash a little quicker.

Now onto the tracks, these are the old school rubber tracks, but at least they don't need assembly!

Started by mounting them on 2 old scraps of wood.

Primed with black primer and then a mix of XF-52 Flat Earth and XF-59 Desert Yellow is sprayed on. Ratio was about 4 parts XF-52 to 1 part XF-59

I did that to both sides and then applied some Vallejo Desert Dust Wash in various places on the tracks.

I then took a 5B pencil and applied lead to the areas of the tracks that would be rubbed clean showing metal. I'm always impressed on how well this looks.

Any additional weathering will be done once they are mounted on the hull.

Here are the final shots, I got so enthused with weathering I got thru it all in one evening and then put a satin coat on the next night. Without taking any pics. Sorry about that!

Very enjoyable build. Looking at the pictures I might go back to do a bit more weathering on the upper hull.

Well that classic was well cared for in your hands. As was mentioned in another post you really get through it, no danger of dust settling and ruining your paint work!

Nice work mate. Great job on an old war horse.
