Help correcting an error

Post by sheppsea »

Hi All,

I am approaching the end of my Spitfire build now and just realised that I had forgotten to add a clear part to the lower wing piece before gluing the whole plane together (basically where the big black hole is half way down the centre of the plane on the photo below)

It miles past the point of being able to try to take the plane apart again to get it in so was hoping for some advice here on how to fix it.

I thought of a couple of options but not sure if there are any better ideas out there or which of these are the best:
  • Cut away the visible section of the clear part and try to glue that in place on the plane - my big concern about this is that it seems incredibly fiddly and I know that the part will just fall into the plane while trying to glue it in and then it'll be a nightmare getting it out
  • Use Kristal Klear to try to build up something to fill the gap in the same way people do for lights - the problem will this is that it seems far too big a gap to fill
  • File down the sides of the clear part and try to thread it through the gap so top and bottom of the part can rest on the plane
  • Just accept that I've forgotten to add the part and learn to live with it

Yes.

either Kristal Klear or AK GAUZY AGENT GLASS COAT should do the trick.

Kristal Klear, just remember you need more than you think as it shrinks, and Kristal Klear can cover a far bigger area than this.
