Global Scale Modeller

From what I have experience with the most common scales for the aircraft kits are 1/32, 1/48, 1/72 all with some drawbacks and advantages, what are the more common scales for other types of kits, i.e. Armor, Vehicles (cars, bikes, and non-armor military), and ships? What are the advantages and drawbacks of those scales?

For armor the most common scales are 1/35, 1/48 and 1/72. It really drives me up the wall that planes don't come in 1/35th scale.

As for my opinion, the only armor scale might as well be 1/35. It's perfect. 1/48 and 1/72 don't have anywhere near enough detail for me to even sneeze at, and you can find 1/35th scale kits at the same price as the smaller ones.

My understanding is that 1/32 used to be "the" large scale for armour, but then Tamiya got into the market with 1/35 and most manufacturers followed. Airfix and a couple of others still doggedly stick with 1/32 for armour. As it is now, 1/35 is the king for armour, 1/48 has rather limited choices, but if I wanted to do a diorama with a silly number of vehicles (4 or more) I'd go with 1/72 just to keep the space requirements down.
