Global Scale Modeller

I just found something a little outside of the box that I have to try for this build. It's a paper model. I've never done one before, but it's so cool that I have to give it a shot! I'll order it this week, and as soon as it comes in, I will post pictures of the "kit??". I have no idea what I'm getting into here, but we will see what happens!!

I am a first time GB'er as well. I look forward to seeing what you've found.

ABOUT THE DSKY
The DSKY was used by Apollo astronauts to control and monitor The Apollo Guidance Computer (A.G.C.) functions for flight navigation in the Lunar landing missions. The A.G.C. was one of the first integrated
circuit based computers. The Command and Lunar Modules each had an Apollo Guidance Computer system on board. This is a static display model art craft kit to represent the Apollo 11 Lunar Module DSKY.
The Command Module A.G.C. Dealt with flight to, around and back from the Moon. The Lunar Module A.G.C. controlled flight functions in support of landing on and returning from the Moon as well as abort flight.
The Apollo 11 LM DSKY met its fate when Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin jettisoned their ascent stage to a decaying Lunar orbit, which subsequently crashed onto the surface at an unknown point. Presumably, it still exists to this day, in some way shape or form, somewhere on the Moon.
The only intact flown LM DSKY is aboard the Apollo 10 LM ascent stage presently untracked, in permanent Solar Orbit.

This is a 1:1 scale paper model. Time permitting, I hope to install illumination for the readouts as well. I'll post pics of the sheets and maybe some sample instructions when I get it in the mail.

Really cool! Excellent project. Yanoo... green 7 segment LEDS can be lit up and setup fairly easy if you want to go this route?? hmmm

Always loved the Apollo projects, count me in!

I may try to do some illumination. The kit comes with different readouts for different stages of flight, so i"ll have a few spare to play with. I'll have to see the actual size and see how sturdy this thing is before I decide exactly how to do it.

I just found out about her recently myself. What an amazing lady.

Hey guys! Got the paper model in the mail. This thing is sweet. 60 pages of instructions. Nearly 30 pages of full color parts printed out on some really heavy high quality paper. You guys should really check out the site. He has all kinds of space stuff, mostly accessories for plastic models! He has launch platforms, Rocket towers, and crawlers in common scales. The guy who runs the site is really great, too. Super helpful. Seriously, check this out! http://www.educraftdiversions.org/ . I'm still gathering supplies before I get started, but I'm going to try post pics of what I actually received tomorrow.

Checked out his website and was really impressed.
Love the crawlers etc for the Saturn V so I pinged him a message asking about delivery to the UK and it's really straightforward. I may order up the crawler kit at a later stage because ultimately it would make a great display for my SIG build. Not sure that I will include it in the build though due to time constraints and I really do want to complete this SIG.

More delays on getting started. I think I will be moving next week, and I really don't want to risk transporting thing in an unfinished state! Might be first on the bench in my new cave though. I did sneak a peek at the kit and it looks awesome! The printing is fantastic! The paper is very thick, almost like a greeting card but a little softer. It is going to quite involved. The instructions are about 60 pages in PDF, and very well done. I'm very excited about starting on this thing!!

Alas, this one has been shelved. I just don't have the space to lay it all out like I need to. Hoping to have my new cave ready in a couple months. Maybe then....

Sorry to hear that...do re-visit your thread and give us an update when you get her going again.
