Hi all I was wondering what grabs you on a build, by that I mean what makes you stick with a build ( obviously the title has an initial grab factor) yes if its a topic you are interested in intially you will watch it but then you may loose interest quickly, but what keeps you watching a build is it the skill, artistry, subject or the way the build is posted ie humorous, technically accurate maybe historical info. My builds tend to be here is a an update oh here is another oh and an other which I realise is so boring and to make it worse I tend to write it on one site then paste and copy to the rest (we all do it) I want to improve in my posting, so what's lacking. I realise I can't be an expert in all the genres I build in (I like so many) but I've noticed you don't have to be an expert to get loads of views and comments so it can't be solely down to knowledge or skill. So what is it that gets people following a build. Subject matter, skill, knowledge or some indefinable amorphous thing.

For me it is the detail on how it all comes together...all the little steps and why it was done that way.

Mostly for me it's the good grammar of the poster and the subject of the build, and whether the builder shows genuine interest in their own build.
The most important of these is the subject of the build though. Especially if I'm looking for reference on something or researching a kit that I might want to do myself.

All of the above for me.

Another thing is the work of friends. Over the last 2 years or so I've got to know a few guys on this site (as much as you can on the web) and I enjoy looking at their stuff because I like them as people. The conversational banter in the general section is great but I like seeing these guys build stuff.

Also, I like decent photographs in people's posts. I make the effort in my posts, I want people to look and say wow, great pic, lovely detail, I can really see what he's (trying) to do here. I like picture heavy posts. But I like people yapping about what they're doing too.

If I can laugh, learn something and go wow then I'm a happy chappy

Yup all of the above (subject, detail, grammar, owner, photos, humour), plus if time is limited then I'll tend to focus on the builds in the same GB/SiG as I'm working in but will try and look in on the reveals in the other groups even if I don't always comment.

I've also noticed that unless a build is particularly challenging or really unusual you may not get much in the way of comments until the paint starts going down and people can see the subject coming to life.

Also and as mentioned by Stokesy I like photos in a thread as I'm not much of one for watching videos unless it's a really interesting subject or process (such as wiring electronics up for instance).

Usually I'm first drawn in by the subject, but will often follow a build based on either the level of detail involved or the humour in the thread.
