Elefant painted with Tamiya acrylics, weathered with Ultimate winter wash and dark dirt. Figures from Mini-Art.

FoG base and rubble piles augmented with additional brickwork and rubble using DAS clay and balsa. Snow effects using Polyfilla and Tamiya Snow Paints.

I am amazed at the winter dios and how real the snow looks. Seems like some sort of black-magic-gris-gris.

Tamiya snow paint is amazing. There's 2 types and 1 has a beautiful grainy texture (like Tetrion filler). You can apply it with a knife or a large brush and it mixes with acrylic paint so you can apply it as slush or dirty snow. I used a lot of Polyfilla as I didn't want to waste the snow paint. The snow on the flat areas is mostly the filler, with a touch of snow paint on top. The stuff on the Elefant, the rubble and brick work is the Tamiya magic stuff

Cheers mate, I was the same. I went for bespoke bits instead of making it myself at the start. I then used the DAS clay as I figured I could replicate the moulded rubble piles and really fill out the detail. You'd be surprised what you can do with clay, a bit of balsa and some snow paint / Polyfilla.

This is how I built my own rubble and brick work.

DAS clay masonry blocks, a few bricks from FoG, and balsa wood. Pollyfilla added to surface and detailed with a knife.





It was great fun to do something completely different - I'd highly recommend giving it a go.

Thanks mate. The key to the Tamiya products is to use the grainy stuff, the stuff in the other bottle is neither here nor there.

I'll have to see if I can find some of that. The stuff I have is like white paste with tiny round spheres in it.

Great build mate, I'm going to have to look into building la diorama. I did do one or two as a teenager but they where very very basic.

Thanks mate, it was certainly a labour of love. The final look of the scene went through a lot of changes during the layout phase. If I'd know the entire surface would be snow covered I could have avoided buying a paved base!
