Hi Guys,
I've collected few questions for you before starting modelling my brand new Macchi 205 Veltro:

◊ It is necessary to clean the plastic model with soap and warm water before starting building it?
◊ Could you please shortly describe every steps of an aircraft painting? From the primer to the final painting effects?
◊ I've read that natural brushes are better than synthetic ones? What's your thought?
◊ Why does someone highlight that it’s important to have teflon gaskets in an airbrush?

I try to answer what I know I am confident you will get more and different opinons here

- It is usually not necessary to wash the sprues, I never do, some modellers do always. A good idea is to clean the model before priming, I do it with Isopropanol. Resin must be washed or cleaned.
- My method: Primer / Pre-Shading / Color(s) / Gloss varnish / Decals / Gloss Varnish / Washing / Semi Matte or Matte Varnish. All layers are applied in thin to very thin layers with airbrush, except for the Washing, this I apply with a paintbrush.
- Since I only paint few with paintbrush, I prefer natural ones, I think the shape, flexibility and ability to keep paint are better, however they are more expensive. For airbrush cleaning and drybrushing I use sythetic (cheap) ones.
- teflon is more resistant against solvents. However, if you pull out the needle, do it always to the front of the airbrush, regardless what sealing you have in.

Hi Arkimede!

1: It's not strictly necessary but I do it "just in case". It doesn't hurt and may save you hassle when you come to paint.

2:This subject is FAR to involved to be gone in to here. I suggest you view the many YT vids on the subject.

3: I only use sable brushes as they are suitable for all types of paint.

4: Teflon is resistant to all kinds of solvents and so won't melt away/corrode. With the exclusion of cheap Chinese AB's all AB's manufactured in the last ten years or so will come with Teflon seals.
