10.5cm LeFH 16 on Mk.VI(e)

Post by hansolo »

Hi guys,

Time for a new conversion!

This time it's the 10.5cm LeFH 16 on Geschutzwagen Mk.VI(e).

This is the final model.

Image

But I'm going to build the prototype. It doesn't have the super structure yet.
I think it looks cooler and less bulky.

Image

I bought this kit for it.

Image

I'm not yet sure if I'm going to scratch build the gun or buy the 10.5cm LeFH 14. Because the 10.5cm LeFH 16 on Mk.VI(e) obviously has the 16 gun.
There is no kit of the 16 but there is one of the 14. But maybe I could convert the 14 to 16. Have to check out how many differences there are between them. Would be quite a challenge though to scratch build one.

I started the build of the Vickers tank.
I saw in the picture what looks like an upright extension to the back, so I tried to mimic that.
And cut out part of the top to make room for the gun. I only have the one picture of the prototype.
So there's a lot of guess work involved.

If anyone can find more images of this prototype, I would be very grateful.:

Image

The exhaust in the picture is different form the original setup of the Vickers Tank, so I scratch built one from sprue.
It had to be diverted because otherwise it would end up in the super structure. And that wouldn't be very healthy for the crew.

Image

Exhaust installed.

Image

Added a cover over the exhaust and a floor plate for the gun to sit on and the crew to stand on.

Image

That's it for now, folks.
Next up: The gun, either bought and adapted or scratch built. :wtf:
Cheers

Will be super excited to see this one built, I don't think I've had a chance to follow any scratch build live yet.

Well, it turns out I thought of a 3rd possibility: 3D printing!
I'm setting up the gun in a 3D application.

That will be even more interesting then, I'm certain I've never seen anyone print anything in 1/35 scale.

Update

Post by hansolo »

Hi guys,

For the creation of the gun I'll be trying some 3D modelling and then 3D printing.

I created my model in Cinema 4D.

Started of with the rear end of the gun.
Basically a cube with rounded edges and a cube and cylinder subtracted.

Image

Then the barrel from several cylinders.

Image

There is a special tool in the app to taper the front cylinder.

Image

For the barrel hole I subtracted one more cylinder.

Image

The lower barrel structure starts with a cube.

Image

Making the required devisions for later detailing.

Image

Structure completed and the structure supporting the complete barrel.

Image

The barrel and support structure.

Image

Some more detailing done plus the sub structure / 'foot' of the gun. I'm not very familiar with the gun parts jargon. :wtf:

Image

Front view.

Image

Back view and added the aiming wheels. :wtf:

Image

One more front view.

Image

That's it for now folks.
Next up: Hopefully the printed parts!

Hi guys,

I made some nice 3D prints.

The parts of the 3D model are placed in a manner that they are printable.

Image

A screen dump of the setup in cura, the app of the printer, where settings are made for printing.

Image

The printed and sanded parts.
3D printed parts always show the layers that they are printed in. It takes some sanding to get rid of them.
Aswel as the 'flesh' from the adhesive rim that is printed around the first layer of the parts, to give them a more steady
fix to the build plate.

Image

A rib for the gun to rest on, is added to the floor.

Image

The gun foot is superglued to the rib. And the gun is fit in between, movable.

Image

Image

`Image

Some detailing is done on the gun. Added bolts to gun base. added some 'optical instruments?' made from leftovers.
Added the 'altitude wheel?' And a shell reck.

Image

Image

That's all for now folks.
Next up: Painting and maybe adding of some figures.
Cheers

Final Update!

Post by hansolo »

Hi guys,

Already the final update.
I'm making a bit of jump here, cause the phone that I made some pictures on, is now dead.
Those are lost. I made the final pictures with an other camera. So there's a jump from unpainted to final.

Here's what I did in between:
Painted it with black primer, painted the centers of all panels white for pre-shadowing, painted the whole thing green, painted the gun and interior grey, used wet pigments and oil paints for weathering. I put on the English decals and painted partly over them. I figured that the Germans would not have bothered to repaint the whole vehicle for the prototype. When it would be painted only after the prototype would be a success and the super structure would have been added for the final vehicle. Also they might just have taken a bucket of green paint and paint over the English markings to avoid confusion for others, during the trials. I also showed the unpainted welds where adjustments or additions were made to the original structure.
I added a figure ready to test the configuration.

Here's the final result.

Your painting skills are EXCELLENT. I love it. The weathering is awesome. The 3D printed texture looks a bit too noticeable to me, although it's a really impressive scratch build.
