Hello all, I have a question for you all. For my New Years Modelling Resolution, I want to start giving builds the respect they deserve and giving each step 100%. I find myself rushing through landing gear and other assemblies just to get it finished. So my question is, What is your Modelling New Years Resolution ??

No more kits! (Lets see how long that one lasts)

I'm in the same boat though - I need to build more than I buy... I think I broke even this year.

Here’s my ‘resolutions’

Maintain then up my build rate
Learn something new with each build
Get more involved in SIGs and GBs
To that end, only buy kits that are SIG and GB specific
Learn how to go to a model shop and only buy what I went there for

Chances of achieving any of the above?

Ideally I would like to try my hand at some sort of diorama or vignette next year, but with another kid on the way I think I'll be lucky if I even manage to complete a single kit next year It's painting that stops me in my tracks - I can't use the compressor during nap time, and I would rather be with the kids during awake time!

You Need one of those near silent compressors...no louder than a fridge. However I understand it is not easy with all the extra demands on the budget that kids create. Chin up it all gets better...soon they never sleep .. and want ipads and a credit card..

I loved the TV series 'Bodyline', and I remember that scene well. Weird bit of trivia, the guy who played Bradman is in 'The Pacific' as Gunny Haney, barely recognisable now.

Mind you, as an Aussie, I'm thinking you might know that already

To somehow get (or make) a paint booth in my bench area with a pipe to extract the fumes.

1. To post a build thread on here
2. To speed up my build time - its takes me months and months to finish any model at the moment
3. To purchase models to build now, rather than ones that really excite me, but make me want to wait until I know I'm ready to make sure I do them justice

Yes the bodyline series was a great story.
No sorry didn't pick up on that bit of trivia not surprizing with my mind though.
Actually never like the The Pacific mini series....just didn't do it for me and I did watch it all. Band of brothers though was epic right there with saving private ryan.

Congratulations on the impending new arrival Rob! And actually a dio might be what you need because once you've airbrushed the main subject a lot of the rest of it (e.g. figures) can be brush painted - that's if you're not asleep after baby-time

I want to:
A) Get my shed. I NEED more space!
B) Finish a GB or SIG
C) Learn to properly use my new airbrush
D) Have fun doing what I enjoy!!

Oh, and Congrats Rob!! I got a new one coming in a couple of weeks myself!

I know what you mean. The ambition's there but its a much tougher watch than Band of Brothers. I can go back to BoB again and again but the Pacific is banked and moved on from.

And Private Ryan is just on another level for me. I can still remember seeing it at the cinema 19 years ago. People rave about the opening sequence, and rightly so, but the rest of the film isn't too shabby either.

My hobby resolutions are a bit different this year and may involve less activity here

1. Finish the woodworking shop...shelving, desk, tools organized etc etc so I can use it without killing myself
2. Finish the Nerd Lab Modelling Space.... reorganize, shelving and better storage
3. Do my bucket list kits and finish the two shelf of doom builds
4. Finish other house projects to complete the build
5. Get back to wood work and leather working and maybe some artsy stuff too

Well for me is to get a better work space. All I have is one of those foldable tables with a cardboard box for the airbrush station. Also to get a shelving unit for my paints as they are all strewn about on the work surface but i try to keep them all consolidated. I want to get a better compressor as my compressor has no tank and a low rated motor. With my tax return I will definitely get working on one of those resolution.

The better builds are the ones where you take the time to do it nice and neat. If you rush it more than you are comfortable then you will end up with a subpar model. I should know because I was one of those people who would rush through a build. Example was that I had an 1/48 A-10 from Revell. It had olive drab plastic and I didn't know about sanding and I had glue spots all over the mode and I didn't paint the model because it had the same color of plastic as the plane itself.

I didn't mean to rush them, just to work more efficiently - I am at the point now where I'm happy with my basic skills so I should be able to get through build more quickly/efficiently

My kids moved out so we decided to buy a new house. Normal people down size. According to my wife I'm not normal so we up sized 1000 sq ft. Now i have my own room. Within the next few months I'm going to rip up the carpet (cut the head off the carpet monster) and put down tile. Paint and set the room up exactly the way i want it. Then get all the kits done before i buy anymore.

This is most likely the hardest thing for us to do in this hobby.

I hope to finish the kits that I have started and get my shelves set up in the hobby room so I can display them properly!

Nice topic Ivan, I think I just want to have a better plan for my builds instead of just going into it and not being sure which aftermarket, paints etc. I want to use for a particular build.

To try and get the 4 builds I've got going at moment done by may. I am hoping work and other commitments wont get in the way like last year.
