Italeri 1/35 M36B1 Jackson

Post by jgaudon34 »

The M36 Jackson - These came in three varieties, all with the same 90mm turret.
M36 - M10A1 hull with Ford GAA engine
M36B1 – M4A3 hull with Ford GAA engine
M36B2 - M10 hull with Diesel engine

I chose to build the M36B1 on the Sherman hull, since I already have an M10 built. These beasts showed up in Northern Europe about the time of the Battle of the Bulge with about 5 months left in WWII. I chose some weathering but not much damage.

This is the new Italeri kit reissued in 2017.
Italeri make good basic kits, but I was used to Tamiya and Dragon kits, so I couldn’t help myself with the aftermarket to bring up the detail a bit:
Eduard 35369 Sherman Photoetch Set
Panda Plastic T54E1 tracks and end connectors.
RB Model L/53 90mm Barrel
Value Gear Resin boxes
Aber 50 Cal Photoetch and barrel set
Eureka tow cable
Tamiya Jerry Can set
Academy Machine gun set

Construction was not a huge challenge, but the fit of the upper hull to the bottom hull did need some clamping. Most of the time was taken fiddling with the Phot etch, and waiting on eBay or other suppliers.

There is no detail inside the turret, except for seat and gun breach protectors. With everything I invested I wasn’t going to build out the interior, so I put on the photoetch turret cover that came with the kit.

I may poke at some of the small detail before I put it in the case, but I am essentially done. Bringing it to our Club meeting Tuesday.

Looks excellent! I particularly like the decals. They look very nicely weathered and faded. And you've done an excellent job on the stowage
There is always time for modeling.
