Hello all. I'm part way throught this build but I figured I'd bring you guys up Step-by-Step on how this kt and the upgrade has come together.



Starting off in the cockpit. A small company by the name of Icaerodesign makes a conversion set for the MiG-21MF by Eduard to make it a LanceR C upgraded MiG. This is the only part of the stock kit that you need modify in order to fit the new pit. Indiicated is where your cut shoul be made to the stock floor panel and when done should look something like this.


Once the modification to the kit floor has been completed then its really a matter of fitting the pars together to dry fit. All I can say about this is WOW. No scraping, sanding or shimming to get the new cockpit to fit. It is literally a drop fit. Here is the cockpit unpainted and dry fit into the fuselage halves.






After the stageringly awesome fit I quickly went ahead and painted the cockpit. The main color used was Akan's No.73163 Blue for Su-33 and thinned 50/50 with 99% IPA over a primer layer of Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black. Here is the finished result.







Next will be a look at the exterior after all of the resin and photoetch has been applied and primed.

Ok so now that the cockpit was taken care of I moved along to adding all the fiddly bit of resin and photo-etch to the exterior once glued and then put down a layer of Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black prior to paint.

Withe the body ready for paint we move along to color. Now because no real colors exist for this particular MiG, I had to custom mix my colors. I used Tamiya's range for this: There are four colors needed and here are the ratios and Tamiya paints used to achieve them:

Underside Blue - 3:1 XF-2 Flat White: X-14 Sky Blue
Light Grey - 9:4 XF-2 Flat White: XF-82 Ocean Gray 2 (RAF)
Dark Grey - 5:1 XF-2 Flat White: XF-24 Dark Grey

Here is the Blue going sown as well as some of the white and chipping layers

That is really coming along nice! Looking forward to the finished jet.

So with all the main colors down, it's now time to show off this beauty. Roundels, numbers and PLW have been added and once i get more mojo for it, I'll move along to weathering. But before that I'll get the landing gear and wheels on and sorted. So for now here's whats been done so far.
























The roundels were the vinyl masks from the Icaerodesign upgrade. The aircraft numbers were also kit supplied, however they were decals as the vinyl was not able to be modified in order to give a different aircraft. The number I chose was 6207. The Icaerodesign sheet only provides aircraft 6840 and 5724. I therefor chopped and mixed the decal numbers in order to get 6207. As well not a lot of the kit stencils from the Eduard kit used as there is very little to no stencil markings on 6207 depicted nor any other LanceR C MiG-21. That cut down on a lot of the hassle of putting down stencils in 1/48. Next time you'll see the LanceR MiG when its on its gear getting weathered.
