Any Interest in a 1/72 SiG?

Post by Tomcat64 »

Just before the Christmas break a couple of us were talking about the possibility of running a 1/72 & 1/76 SiG or Buddy Build so I thought I'd see what the general view was. Although the current trends are definitely for 1/35 & 1/48 for many of us of a certain age our first baby steps into the hobby would have been with an Airfix 1/72 plane with the cockpit covered in glue :)

So any subject (including dios) any manufacturer as long as it's 1/72 or 1/76 - let me know what you think
Cheers, Neil

I've got the new tool 1/72 Airfix B17 which I'm saving for a hoped for bomber buddy build. :th:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Got plenty of 1/72 stuff in my stash since this is my preferred scale to work in. So, yeah - I'm in! :th:

I am solidly onboard for a Bomber Build, after April and the egg planes are done and before the WWI GB
I will fully commit to helping out and organize it if nobody else wants to, but would prefer some assistance as am more of a collaborator than an outright leader. So contact me if you wanna do it and away we will go.
Could even throw in a prize from the’ol stasharoo
There I said it ...in two places no less

Well I voted yes, of course! Still have issues here with painting and I have a few kits on the bench that still needs to be finished, so I may not join unless this eats me alive  and its during warmer weather, so who knows. Count me in though for any positive comments for these builds. I do love bombers!

Thanks to everyone for dropping in and voting and commenting so far - looks like we have a little interest in the little kits :) So I'll leave the poll open for a while longer to see if there's any more interest out there.

Thanks guys! :th:

Interest is still growing so I think there's definitely a chance of getting this together later in the year; we just need to make sure we don't try and do everything at once as it looks like the Bomber build will be taking off in May so maybe time this one to follow that one with a month's overlap.

I was having a casual browse around for this the other day and everywhere was sold out and not expecting stock until March.

There's a couple out on e-bay at the moment around the £25 mark - can't remember what the original retail was though.

Yup, one of my favs too Neil! Really of all time. Thanks for the tip. Im just reading about him now. Very cool pilot!
Yea who could possibly not be interested in the pilots, the engineers or Kelly Johnson or anything that Skunkworks did back in the day. Just awesome machines. I know I have the SR71 squadron book too lying around somewhere as well for this kit. Now to find it.

Found it! Man havnt seen this for quite a while. I know there is so much more on the net for this cool ship, but really, Im kind-of like Kirk on the Enterprise who was allergic to Retinax V. (haha) and I do have vision issues too but like the movie (or his attorney in “Court Martial.”).... I just love books!

I didn't either until I came across the aircraft while looking for something else, something to do with the Airacobra. I love those weird prototypes and cool things that didn't make it into full service for whatever reason, so that's why I have that kit

Thanks to everyone that's replied and voted in this one.

We don't have enough positive votes to start this up as a SIG, but Paul has kindly allowed us to set up a Buddy Build for 1/72 builds.

My intention is to start this running from 1st March and run it as a drop-in buddy build until the end of November. The idea being that anyone can drop in and start up a 1/72 build with no other restrictions on the subject in between other projects or GBs without the deadline pressure of a GB or SIG.

I'll put up an announcement in the appropriate sections on the forum nearer to the time, but hope this idea will work for you all.
Cheers, Neil

Morning Chief, I've asked Paul to set us up an area in the Buddy Build section but it doesn't look like he's had chance to get to it yet. Since we're past the intended start date please feel free to get started on a build (I know that Phantom is calling to you!) but grab a couple of photos so you can post up a build thread once the section's up :th:
Cheers, Neil

Its now open. If Someone wants to enter some guidelines rules etc for the SIG that may prove beneficial for yourselves. And you may also want to give it a mention and link over on facebook too :)

Ahhh...nevermind. Found it.

Sorry mate - I missed this one.

It looks like you found us anyway but yep each build has its own thread over here

So feel free to drop in and create one when you're ready as you'd be very welcome! :cheers2:
