Mark's Eduard MiG-21 MT/SMT

Hi guys
This will be my entry in this sig
I will be building the Eduard 1/48 MiG-21 SMT kit wich offers 2 MT versions and 3 SMT versions
After building the PMF a while ago i decided to get another one as i really liked the kit

So this time i will be building this one

I was going to build this one

But i noticed Ivan is going to build the same plane
And i think it would be nice to see as many different ones as possible so i decided to make the one from the boxart

That would be this one
It has the same colors but a slightly different scheme
It is a MT version (older variant) but that still looks the same on the outside
The most notable difference is the engine and that doesn't really show in the kit

So all that is left is to say good luck with everones build
And hopefully we can see a lot of MiG's soon

Hi guys
Well i think it is time for a little update
Allthough i don’t have as many photo’s left
Everything was on my phone and that decided to die yesterday
So i had to use the tablet to take some new photo’s and upload those
It is in the mids of getting it’s washes at the moment but i think i can get the fuselage closed today

So at the moment i am working on the washes and probably a little bit of chipping and then i can flat coat it and then put it all together so i can move on with the build

Good thing those pics where uploaded and posted allready
But i did loose a couple of pics of this build from before the paint
And from a whole bunch of other builds and figures as they where all on my phone
But i am getting a new one tomorrow so then i can started all over

Good luck with the new phone Mark. I hope you can save your pictures a bit better with a new 1. Flickr or even Dropbox may be a good way to keep them on the net for easy access if anything else happens to it later.

The problem was that i didn't upload all of them yet
But i have a new one and i will be building later today
But i have 4 builds that are nearly finished so i think i will start with those and then clean the bench before i get back to the MiG
Should be today or tomorrow so not all that long

Hi guys
Time for a update
I managed to finish 4 builds today and got back to the MiG
At the moment the fuselage is closed up and all the major parts are done
All that is left is the small stuff like the landing gear , weapons and some cockpit parts

Once the flat coat was dry i glued the various sub assemblies in the fuselage

And glued the 2 halfs together
It required a bit of pushing to get everything smooth but it was pretty close in the end

Then the back and tailsection was assembled

And the wing and wheelbay parts where glued together

After removing a little bot of flash the backpiece fitted great

And the wing section was glued in place

Then the elevators and various other small parts where added

And the tops of the wings where added
They didn't fit as well as i had hoped so some filling was needed

As you can see here
I don't know why but i had to fill a 5mm long gap on the left but i had to fill the entire line on the right side of the plane

And some of the landing gear baydoors where added
The other parts will be fitted on the landinggear itself and i plan on painting those as seperate piece
Mainly because i need to paint inside those bays anyway asi forgot the inside of the wings

And that is how far along i am with this one at the moment
I will be adding a couple more bits today and prep all the parts for painting in the upcoming days
Now i just need to order in the required paints and get started on painting soon

So just a small update this time
The MiG is waiting for paint at the moment but that should be arriving tomorrow

Sadly i knocked the plane from the stand and 2 of the 4 fins on the pitot tube where lost ,still didn't find them so i removed all of them

The canopy was fitted with the mirrorpart (not an actuall mirror) and masked

And everything is primed
So all i need now is paint so i can continue the build

Time for the final update for this build
I managed to finish it last night so for me this sig is over
But first i will show how the build went along

First off painting
The only things i masked are the clear parts and the lower part
Wich is painted grey ,the rest is painted free hand

It is hard to see but i misted the camo with off white
Just to dull down the colors a bit

Then after a gloss coat i started the decals

Then after the decals and a second gloss coat i added a a wash

I then added some dirt streaks

Once that was dry i started to add the parts that where painted seperate from the plane

And then i finished it up and called it finished
