Dealing with cats!

I currently live in an apartment with two cats. The only place I can do my modeling is in the living room with space to spare. The cats have caused a lot of damage to the model that I am working on. This happened twice. The first was worse than the second one. I prefer to have the kit on the bench as I go from day to day especially with the way my room is at the moment. How would you deal with the pet situation?

Unfortunately from my experience with cats the only way you can protect your models from them is to completely cut off access, so you'd have to either move the model or the cats apart behind a door the cats can't open while you're away, or at least on top of a very tall piece of furniture the little buggers won't climb.

With 5 fury horrors about the house I'm lucky they show no interest in he models but do like to scent mark the boxes! If you can't separate the cat from the model then try putting a towel over the model so it can't be seen or moved.

Go to one of the pound shops and buy a couple of the cheap plastic storage boxes that are big enough to put your WIP into or if just for a short time turned upside down over the top on the bench....
I know even leaving for a few seconds to make a cup of tea you can come back to a cat sitting on top of what you were just doing

or on a warmed up seat!!!
Also worth saving and washing out the plastic tubs from the Indian or Chinese take away and using them for small parts, lined with a sheet of kitchen roll works a treat
This was a little trick I picked up when my son did Warhammer, I used to drop him off at the shop and all the kids would turn up with loads of boxes like this in their backpacks..

You can buy or make (google) cat repellent. It won't harm them, just make them decide they don't want to be near an area (in this case your desk).

I tried this but it didnt work!
Yup, I got two Cats as well, and I have to keep my bench door closed. They chew everything. Still have parts missing and I dont think the carpet monster did it as well.

I left a 1/72 Spitfire out that was built and just needed some finishing paint and my Maine Coon Merlin literally chewed it up.

I always make sure things are packed away in boxes and tubs etc now. I am lucky enough to have a small office room and I display all my models there and the door stays shut. I love my cat so it is just a compromise I have to make. A glass cabinet with doors is a good idea as well.
He is just a kitten in the video and is twice the size now and twice the rascal.

I'm lucky in that our two generally treat anything human related (Christmas trees, models etc...) with the level of contempt that only cats can achieve.
Food on the other hand is another matter - apparently one of them likes cherry cake...

Don't be silly.
He lives in an apartment. A .22 or airgun would be far more respectful of his neighbours.

I do like that idea. Also if I could suggest, with near complete kits one could use those cheap plastic drawer system with 2-4 drawers to put those kits in.
