Eduard coloured PE regarded as cheating at model shows?

Post by DoubleDigit12 »

Hey guys I wanted to build an eduard profipack model for an upcoming competition but I have a few doubts in my mind. Is eduard profipack coloured PE regarded as cheating or even as a bad habit for model competitions?

Not as far as i know
Usually you can find the rules of a competion on the clubs website or in some cases on the competitions website (if they have a seperate website for it)
If something isn't mentionned as prohibited it is allowed i think
On the bench

Personal builds

Just check the rules first
I will be entering in a competition next month and they have pretty clear rules like a oob and detailed catagory in each class (beginner advanced and master) except in the open class wich is where planes belong along with all kinds of stuff
It is a armor group after all
But what i mean to say is that they can have rules abput the use of after market parts
The problem is that pe can be part of the kit
Allthough the club where i am a member of doesn't get picky about that
But when you enter a Sherman with a bunch of stowage in the oob class they will ask questions or put it in the detailed class after checking with the modeller first
I do need to say that it isn't a really big competition as it has about 200 models entered each year
The SMC is the big one in the Netherlands and they had 1600 to 1700 last year but they have far more classes like figures in several classes (fantasy and historical) vehicles ,planes, cars and diorama's and all are devided in skill levels so all in all you get about 30 classes

I don't think it is. But if you call coloured PE cheating then decals should be cheating.

Thats actually a very good point, I had considered that before

I suppose the only difference is that decals are still OOB

Anything that comes with a kit from the manufacturer is OOB. If it was otherwise, no one would be able to enter a Dragon tank kit in an OOB category. Pretty sure every damn one of them has PE in it. LOL

IPMS does not have any issues with it. And I have not yet seen a club that does. You just have to state that this is an Eduard Profi Pack kit that comes with the PE. And you should only need to mention that if you are trying to enter it in an OOB category.

Having said all that, do judges have bias against PE? Some do, some dont. Nothing to be done about that.

I have heard of but experienced the glue not being good enough on manufacturer supplied sticky parts. But I think the colored PE is the bee's knee's when it comes to livening up the cockpits.

I have never heard of a rule like that in any of the modelshows.

If it where - I'm in deep trouble :D

The self adhesive ones can be a bit weak indeed
I had 1 or 2 sets where it was too weak and didn't stick
But it is still pe so i used some ca glue

Eduard has stopped producing self adhesive PE parts I guess because of the issues with the adhesion.

That could be but they are still working on the colored ones
I saw a facebook post the other day that they are working on a slightly weathered version aswell
The self adhesive ones didn't work all that well but you can still glue them
And if you build profi packs or limited edition kits then you need to glue them anyway
I actually prefer them that way

I fully agree - the adhesive is not working and can sometime cause issues with alignment. Thay can also add wierd looking thickness and I have seen examples where the adhesive tape is showing.
Myself, I always peel of the adhesive tape from the backside to avoid problems like that.
