1/48 Airfix Gloster Meteor F.8

My next build is Airfix's 1/48 Gloster Meteor F.8, with Eduard PE cockpit set, and canopy mask. I bought a Pavla resin seat, but I'd forgotten I had already had a NeOmega seat. The NeOmega is the better detailed of two.
The seat is painted with Ultimate black primer, Hataka Blue Line camo beige, blue, red and yellow. Buckles are Vallejo chrome, and finished off with a drybrush of Vallejo duralinium.
The instrument panel, and cockpit tub, were also painted with Ultimate black primer. The necessary PE was used from the Eduard set, and then to was all drybrushed.

Thanks Gary
It's a lovely kit, and so far, it's going together really nicely.

Got the cockpit tub together, and the seat has been dry fitted for the moment.
The kit allows you to have both gun bays open, so I'm going to have the port-side one open. This has been painted with various Vallejo Metal Colours Gunmetal, aluminium and jet exhaust, then given a black wash, and finally drybrushed with
Vallejo chrome.
Upper, and lower wings, are together. Lots of holes drilled out for mounting the rockets, later in the build.

Thanks Alex.
The drill bit is a 0.8 or 1.0mm (can’t remember which), and the set from Expo.

Cockpit tub installed in the fuselage. Plenty of weight added to the front end too.
The wing sections fitted well, with just a small amount of filler needed at the wing roots.
I've also got the tail-plane, and rudder fitted.
Starting to look like a Meteor now.

Looking really good!
Always fancied a Meteor myself. Have you built the Tamiya version? If so, how do they compare?

Hi Matt
I've not built the Tamiaya kit, so can't comment on it. The Airfix one is very good though. fits together well, and only a small of filler needed along the upper wing roots.

Can't believe this has gone together so quickly!
With the intake cases, top engine covers, and the various antenna fitted, the primer was applied. This was the usual (for me) Ultimate black primer.
A small tip I read recently recently, for this primer, is to warm it first. It then sprays so much better.
I let that dry for a day, then set about applying the main colour. For this I use Vallejo Metal Colours. I'm a big fan of these Vallejo acrylic paints. They're easy to use, and spray brilliantly.
Main airframe, wheelbase doors and undercarriage are Aluminium. The airbrakes, wheel centres, and rocket heads are Steel. Main canopy and rocket pylons are Duralinium, and lastly the mudguards are Dull Aluminium.

A coat of Vallejo White Aluminium has been applied, which on advice, which seems more representative of the High Speed Silver the Meteor's were painted.
The exhaust nozzles have been fitted. Intake has been sprayed Duralinium.

After the paint has dried, I misted a couple of coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss, in readiness for the decals.
The decals went on very well, without any issues.
Once they were applied, I left them to dry. The following day, a couple more coats of gloss were applied.
Again, I let that dry, then it was time to do the wash.
For this, I used Ultimate's Dark Dirt wash, which on the NMF looks quite nice, and not overdone. I cleaned off the excess, and sealed it with another coat of varnish.

"MiG Killer!"
Achieved using AK Interactive's Smoke pigment, and used the tip of a cocktail stick to scribe out the wipe marks and motif.

Really impressed!
How big is the model? I was contemplating buying this kit myself today, but the HUGE box meant there'd be no way I could sneak it home!
