Hi guys
This will be the buildthread of my Academy SU-27 Flanker and his 2 smaller friends ,the MiG-29 Fulcrum by Academy and the SU-25 Frogfoot by Smer
All 3 are in 1/48 wich is my prefered scale for planes allthough i do like them in 1/35 aswell but there isn't that much in that scale and they can get rather expensive

Anyway i want to combine these 3 builds because of some similarities between them
1 i will be building them all as planes from the Ukranian airforce
2 they will all get a digital camo
3 all of them get a lot of after market upgrades
4 i am building them side by side
So that is my reason to make 1 big thread instead of 3 smaller ones

Today i will be showing the kits and the after market i collected for them

SU-27 Flanker
The first one will be the Flanker as that is one of my favorite planes

So that is the kit from Academy
It is a aging kit as it has been around for quite a while
And allthough newer and probably better kits of this plane are availble like the Hobby Boss kit this one is much cheaper and i think that if you are going to use a lot of after market anyway it is a good basekit for such a build

Speaking of after market here is what i will be using
Image

A Wolfpack resin cockpit with a ejectionseat

Eduard's Big Ed set for this kit
It contains a
Interior pe set
Exterior pe set
Weapons/missle pe set
Masks for the canopy

Image
20180301_190007 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Foxbot vinyl masks for the digital camo

Image
20180301_190925 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Begemoth decals for the larger decals
Allthough this set contains over 20 different options for various airforces (so yes i will be building more Flankers in the future)

Image
20180301_190930 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Begemoth stencil data decals
Again for various nations/camo schemes as they come in several colors

Image
20180301_190937 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Akah/Akan paints for this camoscheme
Not really after market but it saves me some time trying to find the colors from paintbrands i normally use

And i think that is enough for now
Next time i will show the MiG-29 and all the stuff i used to build that one

Take care
Cheers
Mark

I hope so
The builds aren't going according to plan at the moment
The MiG had problems with the digital camo so that will be a regular 2 tone soft edge scheme

Hi guys
I think it is time to get on with this thread as i was kind of forgetting about it with my current work hours
Anyway last time i showed the SU-27 Flanker so this time i will show the SU-25 Frogfoot and the MiG-29 Fulcrum A

So let me start with the SU-25 as that one was first in the album and it is missing the box
(I stuffed everything in a big tub and lost the cardboard box)

Image

As you can see from the instructions it is the Smer kit
But the molds have been used by several companies and date back to the 80's when Kopro first released it
So to spice this old kit up a bit i have a bunch of goodies
Image
20180301_191155 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
These come from the Big Ed set by Eduard

Image
20180301_191215 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A Foxbot mask set
This didn't work out in the end but i have a back up plan

Image
20180301_191249 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Eduard rocket launchers and pylons
The small baggy on the left pack are 2 left over rocket launchers from my MiG-21 build

Image
20180301_191318 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Air intakes and wheels

Image
20180301_191329 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Master model's brass pitot tubes

Image
20180301_191348 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A Authentic decals ,decal set
This is also the back up plan as it has decals for the camo parts and the correct markings and stencils

So that was the SU-25 and now let's move over to the MiG-29
Image

Image
20180228_214813 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
No there isn't a part missing
I removed it allready before i remembered to make some sprue shots

Image

Image
20180228_214831 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE

20180228_214838 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE

Image
20180228_214857 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE

Like the Frogfoot kit this Academy kit isn't very new
It has been reboxed a couple of times by Academy allready but also by Eduard as a limited edition kit
So i figured that a bunch of goodies will make it as good or better then the Eduard boxing
That was the thought anyway

Image
20180228_214954 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
So i added a Aires resin cockpit
Wich actually fits unlike the last cockpit i bought from them

Image
20180228_215139 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some Aires exhausts
These look way better then the kit parts
And on a jet i feel the exhausts are a important part to focus on

Image
20180228_215226 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Eduard resin wheels

Image
20180228_215236 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Master model metal pitot tube and a Quick boost nose cone
It is shaped a bit different then the kit parts and also adds a bit of weight so it doesn't need any extra weight to prevent tailsitting

Image
20180228_215358 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A Eduard Big Ed set
It contains
Interior parts
Exterior parts
FOD covers
A ladder
Missile parts
And masks for the canopy
Some will be kept for a future build like the FOD covers and the ladder as i have another one of the MiG-29 kits

Image
20180228_215444 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Foxbot mask
In the end it didn't work out the way i hoped as the masks left glue marks ,damaged the paint work and i had some paint build up on them
So in the end it won't get a digital camoscheme but i looked for other ideas and picked the scheme that was used before the digital scheme made up with a light and sky blue and dark grey in a soft edge scheme

Image
20180228_215542 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Begemot stencil data decals

Image
20180228_215901 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Begemot decal set Fulcrum family 1
This is a huge set with 50 different markings so i have more then enough to build a entire airforce of MiG's

And that is all for the MiG
I removed some of the parts because i wanted to test fit the cockpit and forgot all about the sprue shots
Because i am actually in the painting stages with all 3 of these builds i know that i had trouble with both masks sets
Weird thing is that the Flanker mask set worked very well amd that is by the same brand

Next time the building begins
I will try to make it easy on the eyes and look neat but i worked on all 3 kits at once so i could do the painting all at once aswell
Once the cockpits where done and the fuselages put together i started to finish construction 1 kit at a time
But all of that is for the next update

Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

Hi guys
So this thread was left untouched for quite a while
I blame the bomber sig  .....just kidding
I actually forgot i made the thread all together
But it is about time i do something about it because 2 of these builds are ready for decals and 1 is actually done allready

So let's start with the build of the Flanker
Image
20180301_194637 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I started with the cockpit tub and cutting the hole for the resin rear part in the fuselage

Image
20180301_195531 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then i added the resin pieces

Image
20180301_201352 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Ready for primer
This was the first Wolfpack cockpit i bought and it was a bit of a test after having trouble with Aires cockpit tubs
They are a little bit less detailed then Aires but the fit is way better and the price is too so i may end up using them more often

Image
20180303_020650 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
After some painting

Image
20180303_020703 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the bare metal of the engines
With my previous Flanker i found it was a right pain in the rear to mask this after the camouflage colors so i decided to pait this first then mask it and continue building
I have to say this works for me

Image
20180303_020809 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
While i was painting metals i did the exhausts aswell
The top ones are for the MiG-29

Image
20180305_015107 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Cockpit is done and ready to be installed

Image
20180305_015510 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fits like a glove

Image
20180305_221941 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the fuselage was closed up and the Quickboost corrected nose cone was added
This also serves as a weight as it is heavier then the kit part

Image
20180305_221947 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
From the front
Quite a big plane for a fighter

Image
20180306_012424 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Rudders, flaps and slats where added
The rudders are there for the picture though they aren't glued on yet

Image
20180309_220512 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Elevators are added after some filling along the seam of the fuselage

Image
20180309_220518 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The Quickboost antenna and probes where added

Image
20180309_220527 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some pe
I don't know why i put these on because i seem to damage or loose them all the time

Image
20180309_220545 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Air intakes are added
The fit is not the best but they can be forced in place

Image
20180309_220553 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
More pe stuff
This is not damaged for some reason

Image
20180309_220706 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Landing gear and wheels
The Eduard wheel set also has some parts for the landing gear and some things to keep it from rolling away no idea what they are called
In dutch we just call them blocks but they have a name

Image
20180309_220739 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Landing gear bay doors

Image
20180319_202346 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then started painting
The missiles where painted later along with all the other weapons for the 2 other planes

Image
20180320_224507 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The second color

Image
20180321_021759 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the third

Image
20180321_021826 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Camo is done

Image

Image

The Flanker and missiles after painting and in a gloss coat ready for decals

Image
20180424_233945 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The types of missiles
I had pe sets for them but i ended up taking them from another kit(same kit, i have 2 of them) as i had bad results with the pe

Image
20180426_015023 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the bigger decals
At this point the build grinded to a halt
I wasn't looking forward to the stencils and as a bigger reason the bomber sig was about to start and i was looking forward to that
So i put this on hold
But with my entries in the bomber sig being almost finished (3 done 1 to go) i will get back to this soon

But before i do that i want to get the 2 other planes posted aswell
So that is all for now
I hope you like it
Take care
Cheers
Mark
