Considering getting a 1/48 Academy MIG-29 Kit - any advice?

I am thinking of picking up one of Academy's 1/48 MIG-29 kits (not sure which one yet). I haven't build an aircraft in this scale before and as such was wondering if anyone has built these kits before. As far as I can tell they retail between £20-25, which seems cheap to me. Reading some reviews they appear to be good kits but lack detail in the cockpit.

Basically any info on whether they go together well and are worth a purchase would be brilliant.

:cheers2:

With your scratching skills a lack of detail anywhere shouldn't bother you in the slightest Dan :th:

PS... Most Academy kits are on the right side of good :D

I would also consider the Great Wall Hobby 1/48 MIG-29 as it is a stunning kit.. one of the best ive seen.. imho its on par with the new tamiya kits.

As you may know, I'm building an Academy 1/48 F-16. I think it's a really nice kit.
There is next to no cockpit detailing though, just foot pedals, a blank display panel
and a control stick. I have found the decals problematic too. I remember the decals of my
youth which were extremely good and after a short dunking in warmish water would stick
to anything easily. The Academy decals though, seem to lack glue of there own and tear very easily.
I have not yet been able to get any decal fix or pledge floor wax (Klear/Future), so
have had to resort to using my liquid glue to do the job.

Hope this helps.

Thanks HamfistedModeller for the info and advice, I am used to the current decals IE no stick of their own so that shouldn't be an issue :th: also the idea of scratching my own cockpit detail is very appealing.

You're welcome. :th:

When you build and scratch the cockpit I'd be interested in see some pictures so
I could pick up some tips.
