Hi I don't know if you have heard or not from 12 o'clock tonight the Military Modelling Magazine will be no more the same for the modelling forum that is where I was lurking this is just a head's up, so if you had a direct debit you might want to cancel your subscription or just got it from the shop I'm afraid you will not be getting it anymore, there is now a lot of homeless modelers out there.

Mine dropped through the letterbox this morning along with a letter to the following effect:

"We are writing to advise you that this will be the last issue of Military Modelling to be published. As of next month, you will receive Model Military International incorporating Military Modelling. This will be published by Doolittle Media..."

So we'll see what next month brings, but it's definitely sad that MM has bitten the dust :(

Since about May last year I haven't been getting any Mags cause our newsagency says he can't make money from magazines. So its cards and lotto plus the daily paper and that's all. It used to be a busy shop employing at least 3 staff full time and now none and you never see more than 2 people in there at a time now.
It's funny I asked whether I could order a magazine in pay in advance and I was sadly refused.....I really don't understand it. :(

The internet companies as good and as useful as they're, are killing off or will kill off a lot of magazines.

Photobucket, no doubt sooner or later Flicker, Facebook, Twitter, will all start charging for 3rd party hosting. Contact groups/clubs/Forums are at risk of getting sold off by the current server/web providers or whatever you call them, companies that take these over sell ad space, Facebook already does and I'm told it's getting worse (I don't use Facebook) and that kills them. A dive forum I belong to but hardly ever use now suffered just that about 2 years ago is not a patch of what it was and is dying.

It's easy money and that like so many things today is just all about money :pistols:

Bad news, and a sign of `how things are going`.
One important point , and one which I`m guilty of not getting around to is this .....
When a forum, or any other internet reference that youve bookmarked and relied on for years , bites the dust , so do all those articles, how tos and build logs that you tucked away in a folder.
There is a way of archiving this important stuff, I`ve forgotten it for now, and like I say I`m the one guilty of not getting round to it, but it probably needs discussing.

I have tried using the digital format for magazines, but I find it isn't the same. The screen is smaller than a a4 page....having to constantly move it around in order to read it and then not being able to see a pic at the same time. It's not enjoyable as a Mag.

Well my first copy of Model Military International turned up over the weekend; first impressions were that it was printed on cheaper matte paper than Mil Mod but that's probably one of the reasons why it's survived when the other eventually went under. Having read through it though there were a selection of interesting articles which included a mix of military history (focussed on Hobart and his funnies) as well as kit building, modification & reviews.

Overall I'm personally happy enough with it as a replacement for Military Modeller based on the first issue, so hopefully that will continue.

Totally agree Neil. Personally I prefer ed my old comic and jeez the font on this new mag is small but that down to my tired 53 year old eyes. Even with good glasses I was squinting.
We'll see in future copies.

 I'm the same age and thought it was just me!

I put the font issues down to the different paper but maybe not... I also though some of the photography looked a little soft, but again that may well be down to the matte paper.

Mini-Bump!

So after having seen a few issues of Model Military International I've finally decided that I'm not happy with it after all so I've been looking around for a replacement mag to scratch the monthly comic itch.

Having swiped a copy of Airfix Model World off my brother this looks like a likely contender - I've always steered clear previously as I'd assumed it was purely focussed on Airfix products but there's builds in here from Eduard, Italeri, Finemolds and others. There's also a mix of Aircraft and Armour which is something I was looking for as I build both. Plus it's 15p a month cheaper :)

Anyone else read something on a regular basis that might be worth a look?

Shame that mag was a favourite. I sometimes read the Tamiya model magazine subject depending and military illustrated modeller. I like the Airfix magazine from time to time but it’s a lot of aircraft for me.
