Woo hoo! Captain No.11 checking in. just a quick couple of shots of my entry. Tamiyas 1/100 B-52d, even at this scale its a bit of a beast. ill get the tape measure out once it all kicks off.

They are big buggers aren’t they! My 1/72 Sterling doesn’t fit my workspace!

That's the kit I wanted! It has decals for where my dad was stationed - Westover AFB! It is going for big money on eBay. I will love to see how this comes out!

Cant beat a BUFF, I always boggle when I see the B52 at Duxford, how on earth did they come up with something that big and think it could fly?

And still going strong over 60 years later.

got round to opening this up, on closer inspection i got a bit of a surprise! more on that later. first up some sprue shots.

while taking these pics i noticed that the whole kit is raised panel lines! i shouldnt really be shocked with a kit this age, but i really dont know if i can be bothered to rescribe the whole thing!
a quick mock up shows that this is approx 475mm long, and a wingspan approx 560mm. so its not the smallest of kits to totally rescribe. let alone the fact that ive never rescribed a full kit before, im hard pushed to do small stuff, lol!
im toying with the idea of a nmf, which could work without rescribing, but i havent made my mind up yet.

Why bother rescribing? I dont. If the kit has raised panel lines, I just work with it. That's what we did back when they were actually made.

It’s not so much that it has raised panel lines, it the problem of losing them when you have to fill/sand any problem areas. You’re then left with either no panel line, or part raised, part scribed panel line.

Leave the panel lines it will look great as it is, that was how most models were made at one time.
Historic kit build.

hi fellas

well, this is all done now, so time for another one-shot build update! i really must get round to getting full internet access put in this place, its just so expensive when youre limited to just one supplier

anyway, here goes.

stared off with the tiny cockpit and four main wheel bays, didnt do anything other than paint for the cockpit, the windows are that small, you wont be able to see inside!



a quick dry fit give you an idea on the size, its pretty big, bigger than a 1/32 F-4!!



engines, pylons, fuel tanks assembled.



wings assembled, then everything got a good going over with a Ultimate sander.



made some ickle bombs. yellow band is just scrawled on with a yellow paint pen, no one will be the wiser once theyre hidden away, lol



and mounted them in the bomb bay, never to be seen again!



tamiya tape to mask off the windscreen and rear gunner 'green house'.



got the pylons etc mounted on the wings. i wish id left this til later, wouldve made painting a bit easier.



then i brought the fuselage halves together.



after attaching the wings, everything got a good coat of Ultimate black primer, and some vallejo putty to fill some seams.



got rid of the filler as well as i could, then another blast of primer.



as i didnt want to use (waste) a fresh bottle of Ultimate gloss primer, i brushed on a coat of alclad aqua gloss, then once dried, i used some of the super thin tape from ...aizu,aizo,aiuzo? ..... i forget.. the stuff that Ultimate sells. its just like tamiya tape, but comes in really thin rolls. anyway, i used it to mask of the walkways on the wings and tail. yep, apparently the tail could be 'knocked' over to fit in smaller hangers, hence walkways on the tail.



i sprayed the undersides and the required areas on the engines, in tamiya gloss white, but i mustve forgotten to take a pic of that.

after lots of fun masking the white bits off, i used various colours of ak extreme metal paints to paint the uppers, once dried, masking removed.



i was pretty happy with how the paint looked, so i didnt bother with a gloss coat before i started the decals.

they went down no problem, considering the age i was quite impressed.



then some more bombs.... booooring!!!!!



and finally got her standing on her own ten! feet.

Stunning looking BUFF. Brilliant work on the walkway lines too. Looks superb, such a reminder of a different time, what a strange life it must have been for those crews, the length of the missions and the remoteness of high altitude bombing. Strange indeed.
