So this will be my entry. Nothing says "Cold War" like a russian sub filled with nuclear warheads. The kit itself is pretty interesting as well. It has workable dive planes. The upper and lower hull SCREW together!! I think this has to do with the dive planes being movable. The kit has some pretty nice detail, despite being a slightly older kit (tooling from 1989). I have test fitted the upper and lower hull and the fit is really nice. So, as soon as possible, I will post shots of the sprues and a little history on the sub itself. Should be fun!

I have built the Revell 1/1400 scale kit some years ago and it was very nice.
I will be watching this one.

I've been thinking about this a lot, and I've almost convinced my self to do this as a waterline build. I've seen some really great model ships set in realistic looking water. It really impresses me. So I've done some research on different techniques to do water and I've found a few that seem to be idiot-proof. It just so happens that I have my unfinished "eggcraft" carrier sitting around from the Easter build, so it will be my test subject for my water experiments. I guess we will see if I "sink or swim"!!
