#8 Revell 1/72 Ju 88A-4 Bomber

Post by TheNordus »

Hello, I bought this set off a local department store some time ago because I find the Ju-88 to just be a beautiful piece of military engineering. I'm not an aircraft modeller usually, so I'm just going to build this one out of the box.

Image

Here's a picture of the contents of the box. I decided to start building immediately, as I knew I'd have to paint the cockpit before putting the rest of the thing together.

Image

1/72nd scale is bloody tiny! Here's my finger (covered in red Tamiya primer) pointing at the cockpit pieces. The detail on this set seems pretty good. There are a few ejector pin marks inside the cockpit but I thought you would not be able to see them after you put the cockpit glass on.

Image

Here's a picture of the sub-assemblies I built before painting. There haven't been any fit problems so far, except the pilot's seats positioning was a little bit ambiguous. So far I've enjoyed building this model so much that I'm thinking of buying another bomber in 1/48 scale tomorrow.

There's always armour on my work bench.

Hey welcome to the sig!!!
The 1/72 scales are pretty small, but then the bomber's wingspan and fuselage get pretty big fast
I agree with you about the beauty and engineering of the JU and He bombers...if not their use
I welcome you to the sig and hope you have some fun along the way

Wow that cockpit detail looks nice for a 1/72 Bird. Great thing about the JU-88 is with that big glass canopy frame you'll be able to see so much of it when you button it up.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

I noticed your build as well. You certainly got a lot of after market for yours. Boggles my mind how someone could work on PE in 1/72nd scale when it's already impossible for me to fold tool clamps in 1/35 scale.

The detail is pretty nice, however the cockpit glass in this kit is a bit thick and warps everything you view through it.

Hi and thanks for the welcome! the Ju-88 was also used in the Finnish air force so there's a bit of national pride involved in my love for this craft.

Here's a quick progress update. There are definitely some unfortunate gaps in the wing roots and next to the engines, but they're mostly on the underside.

Well the PE I have is to get more expérience with it. I’m a beginner and have a B-17 in my stash that would love to come out good...and tought the sig was a good way to learn as it would be easy to get comments or ask questions. But i’m having more trouble figuring in which order to do everything than with the manipulation of the PE itself.
