Monogram 1/48 F14 Tomcat

So I finally got on with starting my first model build since i was about 15 years old. I am now 38 and getting back into model building and seen all the amazing builds and also how advanced things are to the way i built, I had my doubts about starting. Also I knew I had to move from brush painting to airbrush.
So here is the start to the build of the tub. The dumbass kit only has one crew, which I find weird as to why this is. The seats aren't done yet as I want to try my luck at doing some scratch built straps and some more detailing maybe to the tub.

Well made a stuff up while working on the tub and had to clean it up and start over. So now it looks different but I can't tell if I like the new look or the old one :

Don't know if that was a funny or you mean the first image of the seats. Anyways they not done yet still need to do the straps.

Depends on the look you're going for. Personally, I like the first one because it looks worn. The second versions looks like it's fresh from the factory.

Good start so far either way.

Cheers.

Finally found some time to do a little work on the Tomcat and some touch ups.
The clean tub.

The weathered tub.

tried my luck at a bit of detailing on the cockpit. Did a bit of metal wearing but you can't see it from a photo because of glare.

Sprayed the white wheel bays and inner intakes. Please excuse my overspray, still learning the airbrush.
Image
My first attempt at making straps. Just didn't know what to use for buckles.

Tub fitted to the cockpit.

So two coats of grey down. Just not happy with the grey colour, its more for a modern scheme on the Tomcat and not the older grey. I am going to leave it this colour, maybe with some weathering and a bit of colour it wont look so bad.

Looking good stiggie, it may be worth knocking back the preshading a tad on the nose and upper wings/spine as it looks a tad prominent. Just my opinion of course :thumb2:

Ta Paul, I think its because my coats are very thin. Think a 3rd coat is maybe needed. The nose is going to more than likely getting a black stripe. Anybody know a site where i can get close up shots of the Tomcat to see weathering marks.

So... did another coat of grey on the body but only after I did some dry brush weathering on the top and bottom of the fuselage. Somehow my cellphone makes detail stand out more than what the eye can see. So I left out the image of the wings because my phone makes it look over done. But when I look at it, it looks a lot less visible and pretty good.
Image

My first attempt at masking and spraying a perfect line. Tamiya FTW. I am very happy with how it turned out and that is what matters most.

Again sorry for the bad images but I no longer own a camera so my LG phone as to do. Also I work all day so most time I have to take images at night.

Thanks guys. Really taking my time with my first build and making sure I am happy with it. Still some more detail to body to go before the gloss coat, decals and weathering.
