Hey guys,

Here's my Dragon King Tiger. It represents a King Tiger in Hungary, winter 1945. The first two pics should give you an idea of the conditions in Hungary and what I was going for, i.e. lots of mud, fighting, wear and tear, more fighting, more mud, fighting, occasionally sinking into a cow pasture....

I tried out the hairspray technique to fade the winter wash...it was nerve-wracking, but turned out ok - you can especially see it on top of the turret, where I figured a lot of wear-and-tear/fading would occur.

Aside from a 1/700 Yamato and a 1/700 King George V that I built in 2007, I basically consider this my first actual model ever. I had a blast and look forward to building more.

This is fantastice work Andy.
You really nailed that chipping buddy. looks like you used both the hairspray method and traditional brush/sponge method.
It's right on the money. I especially like the turret roof.
It's perfect. It's exactly how HS chipping is supposed to look 100% nailed

Excellent build Andy - can just imagine this in a muddy field in a cold wet winter. Excellent weathering and especially like the chipping.

Model verry OK...but -" I want kill You Man - The tracks an Turret too-rustic, to agressive" Man - not natural with the tank...They are beating my eyes .Its my opinien . The 3 rings on the end tank - this is super colour for this trucks > can be littttttle agressive - and will by TOP MODEL ! (for me total realistic) really J U S T D O I T

Let's keep it positive there! criticism like that it's often not wanted here in the Forum. I might be wrong but to me you are sounding a little too judgmental. It's a fantastic build and I'm sure he had lots of fun doing it. That's what's all about..... Fun. Thanks for your understanding and Happy modeling!

To Paul & coladito1 Sorry Mans I am historical and PanzerWaffe maniac ...It was no criticism only Thrue(historical) - model is genial - For me ist professional level...Model (Tank) is Super !!! but the tracks on Turret for me is no realistic - how 5 years Rust Russian Front but not in Hungary ..I sey what i look.... . " I want kill You Man - The tracks on Turret too-rustic, to agressive" was a figurative expression ...I am verry friendly Mans

For me its realistic historical color "tracks in rust" , its all in theme

Just bear in mind not everyone wants their models criticised and may not appreciate comments like the above. I appreciate you may be a panzer fanatic, but not all modellers are, they are just modellers making models in the way they that envisage them

Stunning work Andy, really great feel/ atmosphere to the model. That weathering shows some real skill

Sorry to join in but I just wanted to say if you had left your previous post at that it would have been fine instead you repeat your comment which can be seen as negative and insulting. Criticism shouldn't be given unless the topic poster has asked for it , especially considering Andy admits this is only his first true finished build.

Ha I can take a little criticism, it's fine. I like the rust and don't really care if it's realistic for Hungary or not. It's a type of art for me.

Nice work, Andy. What were some of the weathering methods used? I don't consider myself much of a weather model builder (much to the surprise of my fellow modellers). Were the rust used with pigments?

Hey man, thanks for the kind words. I really wanted to make something that would jump out and contrast with the dark, very muddy tracks - so I decided to make some freshly (and very) rusted tracks. Just paint them a brown color, hit them with a few layers of AK Track Wash, and then use AK Track Rust, AK Medium Rust, and AK Light Rust pigments to create different colors, shades, and interesting contrast. Then dry brush some of the outer parts of the track with a silver or chrome color to create the metal look. Easy and fun.

In the future, I think I'll keep it more subtle...just paint it a darker brown, maybe one coat of some thinned Track Wash, then hit it with a little track rust pigment.....but I didn't know what the heck I was doing and I had fun going to town on them lol

For the mud, I bought AK Interactive's "Heavy Muddy Set" (see - made it really thick, put it on with a brush, and splattered it everywhere....once it dried, I used AK Dark Earth and European Earth to lighten it and create different tones (the European Earth will make parts of the mud look like it's in the process of drying out - it looks very cool)

I had a lot of fun with it... but I'm sure the tank crew of my Tiger were pretty pissed about all the mud stuck in their running gear and their rusty and dilapidated spare tracks....

Go for it bud, it really adds a lot of realism to the model. Plus, it's fun making these tanks look like they've been through all kinds of the worst kinds of dust, dirt, and mud.

I think it looks great, and you have hit the nail on the head there Andy, you had fun, that is what this hobby is all about, and we all learn as you say, the next time the rust will be more subtle.
