Stash size....

I see a lot of people on here proudly displaying their magnificent stashes, some of them put many local model shops to shame, and I am insanely jealous.

However, anyone else like me that keeps a very small stash? I have one project on the go, and two kits lined up in the spare room.....that's it....three!!!

I keep a balance of one or two and buy a new one when something takes my fancy.

I'm fairly new (besides when I was a spotty teenager) to the hobby so I guess a big stash mainly comes with time?

I'm the same Gary. A couple of builds on the go, a couple on "the shelf of doom" and two in the stash waiting to be built. However, it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I got some Hobbycraft vouchers which should enable me to double the size of my stash!! :eeek:

Keep your stash as small as possible
I find it de-motivating to look in the cupboard and see all those kits I was so hot for at one time and then wonder why I have them
You notice the live show guys selling off stuff they are no longer interested and loading up on other topics of more current interest
Stash building is a guy thing..like a women 'nesting' in their house before a baby comes

One kit being built and a few that people have given me but I have no interest in! I have never understood stash mentality. Especially when you see people selling of duplicates from their pile!

I have a something of a stash, which has grown over the last 10 years. At first it was about 10 kits for 4 or 5 years then I just started getting more keen on the hobby and I started buying more. Sometimes manufacturers discontinue kits and they become hard to get so that's one reason, but really I like the look of the boxes so that's gets me buying. Silly I know, but it's nice to be able to go through them and decide whats to build next. I have no access to a real store front so I have to buy some things online in advance ( paints, glue ) and they never have a full catalogue of kits ( always out of stock ) or have a 2-3 months restock time. Due to the cost I buy a lot of pre owned kits now. I will never most likely build them all, I really don't care. I do have the hope that one day I will have grand kids that I can share this all with. I'll be that cool grand dad that the kids want to come to see....If I ambush them before they become teenagers

I am developing a bit of a stash, mainly for these three reasons. Firstly as a hedge against price rises. Secondly getting a kit whilst it is available is easier and cheaper than when it goes out of production and becomes rarer to find. I'm working thematically so I have a list of aircraft (my area of interest) I need to achieve that goal. Lastly, i will usually have a couple of things being built at the same time if past experience is the judge. Like digger303, I need to order online with the inevitable delays that comes with it. Im having a "conversation" with one retailer as to why im still waiting a month later, for a kit with a 1 week back order time to be dispatched :pistols: . Im also waiting on stuff ordered a couple of months ago that is travelling through the vagaries of international post. I'm not however going to get quantities of the same kit.
