Hi guys
I think it is time for a new build as i recently finished several builds
And made quite a lot of progres in finishing the shelf of doom
Lately i have been collecting the big and heavy tank transports a bit and i have a reasonable collection by now
So i decided to grab one from the stash and start a new build
It is going to be the Meng 1/35 M911 C-HET tractor with the M747 heavy equipment semi trailer
And because this big boy needs to haul something i decided to add a Meng D9R armored bulldozer aswell

So a big project i think but let's have a look at the kits first
Who knows maybe some one likes all those sprue shots

The box art

Image
20180929_222707 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Besides being a rather big box it is also quite full

Image
20180929_223431 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The A sprue ,you get 2 of these

Image
20180929_223619 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The B sprue ,this was bend a bit but the only parts that suffer from this are the chassis beams and that wasn't a problem to get straight (i am past that point in the build)

Image
20180929_223637 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The C sprue

Image
20180929_223652 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The D sprue

Image
20180929_223708 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The E sprue

Image
20180929_223722 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The F sprue
Those are the sprues for the truck/tractor as far as i can tell
The following sprues are for the trailer
Image
20180929_223753 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The G sprue again you get 2 of these

Image
20180929_223806 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The H sprue

Image
20180929_223828 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The J sprue ,no real guess as to what these bits are

Image
20180929_223839 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The K sprue

Image
20180929_223854 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The L sprue

Image
20180929_224218 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then we get some metal wire ,photo etch ,metal axle rods and poly caps

Image
20180929_224437 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some window masks ,i think for both sides ,colored wires for the airhoses , decals and mirror stickers

Image
20180929_224815 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A lot of tyres in 2 sizes
The bigger ones are for the C-HET and the smaller ones for the M747

Airbag suspension

Image
20180929_224824 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A closer look shows a pretty nice thread on the tyres and all the markings on the sides including the Michelin brand

Image
20180929_224831 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The M747 tyres are made by Firestone though
But i think it is a nice thouch to have these details on the tyres with misspelled names like some brands have

Image
20180929_224927 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The 2 paint options
Either the dessert yellow or the tri tonal "jungle" camo
I will be doing the dessert one but i want to see if i can make the trailer in the jugnle scheme and then the dessert one on top of that with some chipping and worn patches
I need to check if the paint allows for that though so some testing is needed prior to me painting this up (lots of time for that ,this is no fast build)

The instruction booklet

Image
20180929_225048 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
After 42 steps and 46 pages it should be all build

A nice little sprue map

Image
20180929_225347 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The only after market i will be adding is this
A chains and tensionner set from MR Modellbau
Looked like a better option then scratch building this sort of stuff to me (because i know nothing about this sort of stuff and how it looks)

And that is all for the M911 and M747
I will show the kit contents of the D9R once i actually start building that
That keeps the thread a bit more organized i think
I have started building it allready , I'm up to step 7 i think so still working on the chassis of the M911 but i can tell that i like this kit
It is fairly complex with over 100 parts used so far but it all fits and looks quite well detailed so far
Even though most of the work so far will be hidden by the massive tyres later on ,it is nice to know the detail is there
Once i finished the chassis i will post the first build update
I am trying to make it a step by step buildlog with all the sub assemblies of each step aswell so it will be a bit photo heavy as there are a lot of smaller steps with in most steps

So that is all i have for now
I will be back at the bench putting more of this nice kit together and hopefully i will be back soon with the first update
Take care
Cheers
Mark

They do look nice indeed
And based on the ones(about 6 or 7) i build they are nice aswell
The FT-17 is one of their lesser kits in my opinion but still can make for a very nice model
Their D9R is absolutely great and if you can get of those you will have a very nice build
I like that one so much that i will be adding one to this build
But their little pick up technicals with the AA guns on the back are pretty neat too and those aren't as expensive as the bigger kits

I've been looking at buying this one. I will be watching your thread with great anticipation.

So far, the tooling and level of detail look pretty good (in my humble opinion).

They are indeed
I used to collect Dragon kits but the days their quality versus price was good are long gone
Meng and Takom in my opinion anyway offer far better kits and their prices often are way better then most others

In my honest opinion this kit is worth it
The only part so far that is causing some problems is the exhaust
The pe cover isn't really fitting so i intend on sanding the styrene part down a bit
But other then that it goes together really well

Hi guys
I think it is time for the first update
For now it will be about the chassis of the tractor and all the stuff that goes underneath it
Wich is quite a lot actually
Most steps have a lot of subassemblies so each step takes some time
And in the case of this update multiple photo's

So let's begin
Step 1
Image
20180929_234257 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The 2 main chassis beams

Image
20181008_231118 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
First half of the rear crossmember
Image
20181008_231236 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the second half

Image
20181008_231435 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
3rd crossmember

Image
20181008_231713 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
2nd crossmember

Image
20181008_232841 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Auxillary transmission

Image
20181008_233326 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Rear leafspring crossmember

Step 2
Image
20181008_234409 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The airtanks

Image
20181008_235518 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And then the fitting of all the parts so far

Step 3
Image
20181009_000552 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181009_000557 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Ammesbly and placing of the transmission
I seem to missed the opppertunity to make a photo of the transmission before it went in to the chassis

Step 4

Image
20181009_003129 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Left and right rear suspension units

Image
20181009_003252 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And fitting them on the chassis

Image
20181009_005103 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitting the differentials and axles

Step 5

Image
20181009_005623 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
More suspension parts and brakes

Image
20181009_010041 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Front leafsprings

Image
20181009_010043 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
No idea what these things are

Step 6

Image
20181009_011805 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
But those same things also go on the rear

Image
20181009_011807 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some chains for the pusher axle
I picked the lowered position

Image
20181009_012505 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some shock absorbers and airspring for the pusher axle

Image
20181009_012812 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The fitting of those parts

Step 7
Image
20181009_013634 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Front axle assembly

Image
20181009_015256 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Pusher axle suspension arms

Image
20181009_015532 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the parts so far

Image
20181009_015936 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And placing the parts

Step 8
Image
20181009_020840 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitting the steering arm and some brake covers

Image
20181009_021616 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the heat exchanger
Nice short step this was

Step 9
Image
20181009_105430 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Building the engine
If you can call it that but a full engine is a resin kit
The covers don't open so i didn't bother getting that and this part is all you can see from the bottom

Image
20181009_110455 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The battery box

Image
20181009_110958 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fixing the parts to the chassis

Step 10
Image
20181009_112627 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The fuel tanks

Image
20181009_115217 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And mudflaps

Image
20181009_115440 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitting the rear tow hooks

Image
20181009_115644 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Right side mudflap and fueltank

Image
20181009_115841 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the left

Step 11
Image
20181009_122155 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Wheel assemble
I will add the tyres after painting

And the chassis so far
Image
20181009_115844 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
At step 12 the build moves towards the parts that go on top of the chassis
So i decided that i would stop the update here and keep that bit for the next update
I'm also still working on that half of the build as i am currently constructing the cabine and exhaust so the tractor is almost constructed but not completely just yet

Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

Thank you
The kit is very nice indeed
Well so far anyway as i still need to finish up the tractor and the trailer is still unstarted
I hope to get back to the bench tomorrow night or monday and finish the tractor wich at this point only takes 2 or 3 more steps in the instructions
And then to start the trailer
So i expect i will be posting the second update either monday or thuesday

You built all the gears at the same time.
Will you paint everything with the same color?
I'm curious how you are going to paint it.

I would have built by colors, and then painted and assembled by colors.

From what i found the tractors where repainted just prior to Operation Dessert Storm
And they used regular paint ,not the kind they have now that can be removed with some kind of cleaner
So i will basicly be painting it in one color and then use various weathering techniques to get a less monotone look
Parts like the axles ,the fifth wheel and various transmissionboxes are usually a bit greasy so i can use products like engine oil by AK to get that effect
Some fuel stains (reddish thick wash) on the fueltanks
And some shading for the general upper half of the tractor along with washes and streaking effects will do a lot to the final look and ofcourse dust

For the trailer i am planning a bit more work with the paint and i am thinking about painting that in the 3 tonal jungle camo and then repaint it with the dessert color and chip that

That is the plan anyway ,i still need to test how well the AK paint sprays and how well it works with the chipping fluids

If you will learn something is guess to me
But i will show my methods of building and if i show something that is usefull to others then that is a win in my book

Hi guys
Time for another update
This time about the upper half of the M911 tractor wich is fairly straight forward to build but it still makes for a fairly complex looking vehicle

So before i get waffling on let's go back to the build
Step 12
Image
20181009_135743 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with the winches and their transmissioncases

Image
20181009_140353 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then some parts on the top of the pusher axles cover

Image
20181009_141230 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the winches where placed

Image
20181009_142001 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And some plumbing for the hydraulic motors of the winches

Image
20181009_212930 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the placement of the winch station

Step 13
Image
20181009_211614 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The subassemblies of the hydraulic oil reservoir

Image
20181009_211932 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts to take some shape

Image
20181009_212205 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some plumbing and oilfilters where added

Image
20181009_212509 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the pipes on the lower half of the reservoir

Step 14
Image
20181009_213347 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
This step starts with the fitting of the hydraulic drive for the winches
Wich connects to the regular transmission of the tractor

Image
20181009_213615 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the hydraulic oil reservoir is placed over the previous step

Image
20181009_213620 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A look at the plumbing after it was connected

Step 15
Image
20181009_215338 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
More hydraulic plumbing

Image
20181009_220458 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The spare wheel bracket and winch

Image
20181009_220833 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitting of that post

Image
20181009_220836 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the fitting of the front bumbers brackets

Step 16
Image
20181009_221617 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The airfilter was put together

Image
20181009_223611 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The radiator

Image
20181009_223616 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The radiator front
I hope it is clear enough to show the surface detail

Image
20181009_224626 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The winch operators station

Image
20181009_224752 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitting the radiator and airfilter

Image
20181009_224755 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the winch operators station is fitted

Step 17
Image
20181009_230034 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The fifth wheel and ramp that goes next to it

Image
20181009_230527 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The parts where then fitted

Step 18
Image
20181010_001525 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The front of the cab interior

Image
20181010_002808 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The seats

Image
20181010_002810 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The cab's rear

Image
20181010_002844 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The testfitting of the seats

Step 19
Image
20181010_004253 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some smaller parts where added like the gear stick ,paddles and steering wheel

Image
20181010_004912 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The cab's supportbeams where added

Image
20181010_010525 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Just a testfitting in between 2 steps

Step 20
Image
20181010_170452 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The doors where put together

Image
20181010_170609 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The engine cover and grill
The pe part is actually fairly easy to shape as you get a jig for that
But you need to make sure the jig can be closed and opend smoothly
I didn't and had soem trouble getting it open again with the pe part still inside it

Image
20181010_170651 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The testfitting of the enginecover and the dry fitting of the roof
I will glue the cab together after it is painted and the interior is finished

Step 21
Image
20181013_114142 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The assembly of the exhaustpipe
The cover is so far the only part of the build that gave me some trouble
I ended up filling a gap on it with a strip of styrene as it wouldn't fit completely

Image
20181013_114415 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Placing the exhaust

Image
20181015_010607 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A bunch of lights on the cab roof

Image
20181015_010042 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A grab handle for the back of the cab

Step 22 is fitting the cabine on the chassis
So i have no specific picture about that as i didn't glue that part together

Step 23
Image
20181015_014628 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Building the grill and front bumper

Image
20181015_020125 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The mirrors and framework

Image
20181015_020447 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The fitting of the horns on the roof

Image
20181015_020849 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I did glue the mirror framework to the roof and the front bumper and grill where glued to the chassis

Image
20181015_020853 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A front view

Step 24
Image
20181015_022621 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Finishing up with some extra supports for the frame

Image
20181015_022628 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Adding towhooks on the front

Image
20181015_022721 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181015_022803 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And now the M911 is basicly build

Image
20181015_023056 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And disassembled again
These parts will be prepared for painting later on

And that concludes this update
The M911 tractor is now build and step 25 is the start of the M747 semi trailer so i will keep that for the next update
But as a little heads up ,i started that yesterday and made quite a lot of progres
So i expect to have that ready soon and then start the D9R

Well that is all i have for now
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

If you can get one it is a well worth kit
Very nice to build so far
I am nearly done with the trailer aswell and allthough that required a bit more work then the tractor it still is a nice piece of the kit
But i am looking forward to the D9R wich is one of my favorite kits

Sure I build a D9R some day. It's in my list. Only I need to think how to integrate it in a diorama.

Some reference pictures may help with that
They are used for several tasks including demolition work ,barricade removal and the more common uses of a bulldozer like soil moving

Your certainly not letting the grass grow under your feet. The build is moving along at a decent clip. :th: :th: :cheers2:

It is going quite fast but to be honest the kit is good so i'm not loosing a lot of time fixing things or spend huge amounts of time on cleaning up the parts
The semi trailer is actually build aswell and i made a small start on the D9R
But i am only at step 4 or 5 with that so that will take a bit longer i think
And i hope to have the next update posted soon but i haven't decided yet if the trailer will be in 1 or 2 parts

Since I know you like tank transporters and all things armor. There is a Scammel utube vid showing the correct way to load a tank. If one was inclined to correctly detail a scammel trailer it is invaluable.

Jeez those British guys made a lot of work of loading a tank on a trailer
The Scammel is one of the few that i don't really like
But i have seen a pretty cool video of the Faun SLT with a Leopard 2 A5 or 6 ,can't remember as i didn't pay any attention to the gun (A6 has a longer barrel)
But i was amazed at the method of securing the tank on the trailer
Like most tanks the Leopard has 2 tow eyes at the back and a towhook for a trailer or actually towing a vehicle
They don't use the eyes but the towhook to secure the back of the tank
They use the ones at the front though
But that was quite usefull as i am planning a SLT build with a Leopard on the back
It is more a matter of will i be building it right after the M911 build before i start painting everything or do i clear the shelf of WIPs first
I am enjoying the building a lot at the moment so i am leaning towards finishing the construction of the D9R and then start building those
Or the M1070 with the M1000 and M1A2 TUSK II
I will be looking for a stowage set for the Abrams this weekend at the SMC show to dress up the tank a bit

I have a pretty good idea of what to do with this one
Besides a couple of minor details like the clips around the hydraulic hoses i want to make the idlers moving
There is a bit too much slack on the tracks
That is something that was in a magazine that came out in the same week as when i finished my first D9R :wall:
Other then that is a fairly easy build ,painting is a bit more challenging but still not insanely difficult
I do want to make it look worn and dirty this time
So i have a shoppinglist for tomorrow for a couple of product to help with that (seem to be running out of things in the cave)

Thank you Ben
I am falling behind with the updates as i forgot to upload all the pics for the trailer build
But i am still in doubt as to how many updates that will take
There are about 60 pictures of the build of the trailer alone so that would make for 2 shorter ones or 1 huge update
But at this point i am building the D9R ,wich is a nice kit aswell
But today i will be at the SMC modelling show so not much will happen on the bench i think

Hi guys
I think it is about time for a new update
This time it will be the first half of the M747 semi trailer construction
A nice and detailed piece in my opinion

So here it is
Step 25
Image
20181015_024903 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with the upper half of the suspension frame

Image
20181015_025258 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the lower half

Image
20181015_025423 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Put together

Image
20181015_030113 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some shockabsorbers where added

Image
20181015_031143 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And finally some more parts to finish this step

Step 26
Image
20181015_165012 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The massive framework of the trailer is put together

Image
20181015_165305 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I thought it would be a bit flimsy and a pain to put together but it actually is fairly sturdy with the crossmembers sticking through the main beams

Image
20181015_165933 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And finally the front crossmember and some small parts where added

Step 27
Image
20181015_172619 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The lower trailer plate is added

Image
20181015_174314 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A plate was added on the front and a small pe filler plate in the middle

Step 28
Image
20181015_174314 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the small support beams on the sides are added and the inner beams on the upper part where added

Step 29
Image
20181015_202844 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Construction of the frame work for the upper part of the gooseneck

Image
20181015_203054 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
How it looks put together

Image
20181015_203848 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And put in place

Image
20181015_204825 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the outer plates for the goose neck are put in place

Step 30
Image
20181015_211307 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
This step in parts
The rear beam parts are put together and the other parts are just single pieces

Image
20181015_211755 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The side plates on the front are glued on the frame

Image
20181015_211758 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The rear beam parts are put in place

Step 31
Image
20181015_212459 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The needed parts for the upper plate of the trailer

Image
20181015_213006 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All put together

Image
20181015_213353 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And fitted to the frame of the trailer

Image
20181015_213819 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
How it looks from the top

And that is where i will stop this update
I plan on posting the other half of the M747 pretty soon because i am building the D9R allready
But that is not going completely according to plan
I didn't want to paint anything untill i finished building everything
Even if that would be in subassemblies to make painting a bit easier
But the cab of the bulldozer really needs to be finished first as the will be a lot of parts on there that would make building it in subassemblies either very hard or inpossible
So i am currently painting the cab

Thanks for having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

Hi guys
Time to get this thread up to date a bit
Well for the M747 semi trailer anyway
I am still working on the D9R wich is going slow as i had very little time to work on it
But i am currently having a vacation so after this week i will have loads of modelling time

So more is to come soon but for now here is the second half of the M747 semi trailer

Step 32
Image
20181015_231549 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with the addition of the triangles on the lower parts

Image
20181015_231551 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the "king pin"

Image
20181015_232323 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Stuff for the top side

Image
20181015_233318 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The winch cable guide is fitted

Image
20181015_233320 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The step half way down the lenght of the trailer and some small pieces

Image
20181015_233324 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the outer plates on the rear

Step 33
Image
20181016_001302 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with construction of the 4 air tanks
They are then combined on 2 brackets and tanks where connected to each other

Image
20181016_001809 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The tanks wherr then fitted in the frame of the trailer and the tubing was connected

Step 34
Image
20181016_003845 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Several small parts where added in prepperation of the suspension

Step 35
Image
20181016_022457 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Lots of half build suspension parts

Image
20181016_022929 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
After some more assembly work

Image
20181016_023339 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The rear suspension arms where placed
Also the 2 swing arms for the 2 front axles are placed

Step 36
Image
20181016_024401 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The parts or partially assembled bits of the 1st and 2nd axles

Image
20181016_024651 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The assembled suspension unit

Image
20181016_024905 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The fitted unit

Step 37
Image
20181016_110358 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A bunch of tail lights

Image
20181016_110818 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All fitted

Image
20181016_141411 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the second half of step 37
The wheels
Ofcourse the tyres where to be fitted but to make painting easier i choose to leave them off untill the wheels are painted and partially weathered

Step 38
Image
20181016_142212 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Step 38 is fitting the feet on the front of the trailer
But it starts with bending the photo etch parts

Image
20181016_142654 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the PE is fitted on the frame of the trailer

Image
20181016_143431 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The first parts of the feet are fitted

Image
20181016_144719 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the rest of the feet are placed
I picked the raised position as i will be displaying it as it is placed on the back of the tractor

Image
20181016_144730 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A side view

Step 39
Image
20181016_155819 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The basic loading ramps

Image
20181016_160323 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fitted to the trailer

Image
20181016_160336 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
In the raised position but without the chains for keeping them raised (will be added later)

Step 40
Image
20181016_161501 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some further details on the front

Image
20181016_161507 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The chains for the loading ramps

Image
20181016_165302 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Even more stuff for the front
The round piece is the spare wheel for the trailer

Step 41
Image
20181016_210558 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Several loose bits like floor plates for the stamps of the trailer and limiting stoppers for the load of the trailer

Step 42
Image
20181016_211552 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A tensionner and little jack

Image
20181016_211841 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Just a test of how the loose pieces can be placed
The limiting stoppers will be used later on once the D9R is placed on the trailer
For now i can't say where to place them as i don't know how long the tracks of the D9R are

Image
20181016_212116 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The "finished" M747 semi trailer

Image
20181016_212234 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Hooked up to the M911

Image
20181016_212244 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE

So now the construction of the M911 tractor and M747 heavy equipment semi trailer is finished
After this step i started the construction of the D9R armored bulldozer
But that didn't fully go according to plan
Not because of the kit but a faulty planning on my part
Allthough i am close to finishing the cab
Once that is done i can finish constructing the D9R and then start painting all the parts and some other builds

So that is all i have for now
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

Thanks Digger ,and yes it does
The M1070 with the M1000 will be a bit bigger but that is one for the future
I also have a Faun SLT wich should be about the same lenght as this one
But then again this big tractor /trailer kits aren't my usuall builds so i am cool with them being a bit bigger then the usuall stuff
Twokidsnosleep wrote: Tue Nov 06, 2018 11:22 pm Gosh that looks cool just like that...can't wait to see some paint on her
thanks Scott
Painting will start fairly soon i think
I want to finish the D9R first and maybe 1 other kit but after that i will get to the painting stages
Otherwise i will have too many builds on the go and that doesn't work for me or my kitchentable where i store all the builds waiting for paint
But i expect to have most if not all of my builds in primer somewhere next week and because they allnare mono tone it shouldn't take all that lojg to paint them
Weathering may take a while as i find that more important on a vehicle with just one color

Thank you Norm
It is a nice kit to build ,a big model and a good fit of the parts
Also the clear instructions are easy to use
A real recommendation if you are willing to spend that amount of money on a kit as it is quite expensive

It has been quite a while since the last update and that was for the M747
So i think it is time to start the D9R

Hi guys
Well it is about time to show the construction of the D9R
I still think it is one of the best kits around
Even though it does show a bit of age
Unlike the first one i made ,this one had a bit of flash
But the fit of the parts and the detail is still good

That being said i still had a enjoyable build
So here is the D9R
Image
20181016_230051 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with the bottom and a piece of the rear of the chassis

Image
20181016_230704 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A bit hard to see but the sides are added

Image
20181016_230714 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A look from the side

Image
20181016_231447 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The enginebay sides are added
At this point most steps are rather small and simple

Image
20181016_231554 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Slowly getting there

Image
20181016_231558 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The basic chassis

Image
20181016_232933 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The start of the ripper

Image
20181016_233451 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A couple of steps later

Image
20181016_234841 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Almost ready to install on the chassis

Image
20181018_232148 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the hydraulic pistons for the ripper

Image
20181018_232204 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
You do need to add the bolts on the heads of the pistons
Those bolts are on the A sprues ,you simply cut them off and glue them on

Image
20181018_232733 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The ripper is placed but not fixed yet
At this point it all fell apart about 5 times ....probably clumpsy user error

Image
20181018_234231 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Now it isn't going anywhere anymore

Image
20181019_000135 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then came the drivers cab
Starting with the floor section

Image
20181019_000140 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
These blocks where added
I have no idea what they are for

Image
20181019_222107 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The large control console

Image
20181019_222112 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It is quite detailed

Image
20181019_222238 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Fixed on the floor

Image
20181019_230049 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Commanders/co-drivers seat

Image
20181019_230100 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE

A test fit of the seats

Image
20181021_212455 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Starting the work on the side walls

Image
20181021_214510 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
More walls

Image
20181021_215252 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
One half of the walls is put together and testfitted

Image
20181021_215332 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The other half is added

Image
20181021_215838 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The rear of the cab was put together and test fitted

Image
20181021_222439 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The roof

Image
20181021_223531 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the parts are prepared for the painting steps

Image
20181111_214005 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All painted up and weathered
I forgot to take some pics of the weathering and painting while i was painting it
So that bit is missing :wall:

Image
20181111_232528 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the walls where glued to the floor and the glass was fitted

Image
20181111_232533 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A look at the rear

Image
20181111_232540 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
From the top

Image
20181111_232639 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The rear was glued in place
But now that the cab walls are glued in place i can move on with building

Image
20181111_234525 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The left hand side of the cab has some of these frames fixed to it
The cab has several of these things but again i have no idea what they are or what they do
I did find some photo's where they where bend and beaten up
But they left them on the vehicle
These styrene pieces however are a bit too sturdy bend up
A pe replacement could work but i didn't want a very damaged vehicle
Just a lot of damaged paint

Image
20181112_000020 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Work moves on to the right hand side of the cab

Image
20181112_085147 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The edge of the roof was added

Image
20181112_111814 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The roof was glued in place and a little bit of filler was used all around the edge to smoothen out the seam

Image
20181112_164054 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Because i made this kit before i knew the tracks will have a bit too much sag if you build it straight out of the box
To fix that i made the idlers working by cutting out the rammers from the parts and replacing them with some styrene tube

Image
20181112_164837 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Testfit of the bogies and sprokets

Image
20181112_170017 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some lights

Image
20181112_194054 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The lights ,airintake and exhaust where added

Image
20181112_205553 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The hydraulic pistons on the front are placed
These 2 control the height or angle of the blade

Image
20181112_210518 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Some plumbing for those pistons

Image
20181113_000500 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The covers and main/headlights where next

Image
20181113_012740 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181113_012747 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The dozerblade

Image
20181113_014150 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The testfit of everything
I made 1 little mistake here
I pushed the arms of the blade on the pivots that are placed on the bogies
You can remove them if you are lucky ,i wasn't and i snapped both pivotpins
Nothing a bit of ca glue can't fix but you can prevent it from happening

Image
20181113_015014 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The moment of truth
Will it fit the trailer

Image
20181113_102235 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the tracks where put together
I start out like this with a chain of the side with the pivots
Then i add the other sides

Image
20181113_154628 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then i added the plates

Image
20181113_160326 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then it was time to put these together

Image
20181113_160756 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
There is quite a lot of stuff in this little set

Image
20181113_221624 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I will add these just as some stowage

Image
20181113_221632 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The other stuff
And a testfit on to see if everything fits

Image
20181113_222305 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
How it looks so far

And i think i will stop at this point
The next step is painting and then weathering
But that will be a fairly long update on it's own and this update is getting fairly lomg aswell

So thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care and happy modelling
Cheers
Mark

Your a marvelous modeler Mark.
Those frames you spoke of I believe are fold down maintenance work platforms.
It does look like Meng have made the Hydraulic rams with a very loose fit where the shaft slides back into the cylinder. In life those would be a close fit with seal housed there.

Thank you Digger
That could be what those frames are for
Allthough i doubt they get used again on that D9R pic i found
It was more of a tube then a platform
Then again is the Army can't break it then it must be some strong stuff

Thank you
But this was mostly a out of the box build
The kits are both pretty well detailed
The only real addition i added was the set of tensionners and chains
Wich to me is quite important when it comes to heavy haulers like this one or the M1070 that i hope to start soon
No way they move a vehicle without securing it
A D9R may weigh about 60-62 tons (metric) but if you can do something crazy enough to make it move it won't be on the trailer for long
Same goes for tanks or other vehicles for that matter

Hi guys
So i decided to finish this thread just before Christmas allthough technicly it is december 25th over here at this moment
Anyway , the last time i finished building everything
So this time it is all about the painting and weathering

Image
20181204_163927 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181204_163930 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181204_163933 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The basepaint was added over a layer of grey Ammo one shot primer
The basecolor is the modern US vehicles yellow by AK
The M747 semi trailer looks a bit different at this point as i was trying to make that one look like a 90's Gulf war trailer that was still in use years later
It also has a 3 tonal camo underneath the yellow but that plan failed so i won't bother with the details on that

Image
20181210_125419 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then started to chip the dozerblade
Because i sprayed a coat of Aqua gloss between the Mr metal color Stainless steel and the basecolor of the vehicle ,i only had to brush the base color with a moist brush and let it soak in
I did that about 3 or 4 times
Then with a fairly firm or stiff brush i started to brush over the paint
The water that was brushed on makes the paint soft and it just comes off
I wanted some chips to be on the blade in the end ,most of the basecolor is gone but i like to leave some chips on there

Image
20181210_125422 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A closer look

Image
20181213_012854 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image

20181213_012914 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181213_012926 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then i started to add the regular rusty chipping
I used various pieces of sponge and Vallejo german camo black brown
The bare metal parts are painted with mr metal color stainless steel

Image
20181213_013121 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
There was a little bit of detail painting
Mostly on the M911 cab wich is mostly black on the inside
Using some grey wich was dry brushed on the details i finished the painting

Image
20181213_013412 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
This is the failed paintjob on the M747
I simply didn't like it this way

Image
20181214_161755 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
So i repainted it with Ammo modern US vehicles yellow as i ran out of the AK paint
Both bottles where running empty really fast as i had to apply multiple layers to even get something that looked like a proper layer of paint
They both didn't want to cover the surface and to be honest i will stick to either Vallejo or Mr hobby color Aqueous or Tamiya paints in the future
Then it had the same chipping procedure as the D9R and the M911 with the sponge
After that it was covered with a coat of Aqua gloss

Image
20181215_121438 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image

20181215_121502 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181215_121507 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the decals where applied
And again covered with Aqua gloss

Image
20181216_012149 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Also the tyres where added to the wheels before gloss coating
I did this because i wanted to use AK's Kursk summer earth effect (thick wash like product) to add a first layer of dust on them

Image
20181216_012152 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181216_012155 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181216_012214 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
But i started out with just a regular pin wash using the brown wash by Mig productions

Image
20181216_113101 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
While that was drying i used a big HB pencil to work on the metal parts
I have a solid pencil for this ,it is just as big as a regular one but it is only made from the graphite core so no wooden bits

Image
20181216_205835 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image

Image
20181216_210033 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
After the washea i started to play around with some oilpaints
Using raw umber to make streakingeffects and several yellow and transparent white for fading and fixing parts where i made too much streaking or left too much wash
I noticed that with oilpaint i can actually work quite fast
And because i let the oilpaints drain the oil on toilerpaper it actually dries fairly quick
I can add a flat coat 1 day after i applied the oils
While it can take a week if there is too much oil left on the surface before i can move on with the weathering
Thinners help with removing the grease and oil from the model though

Image
20181216_220420 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the AK earth effect was used
This is a before and after of the effect being added and after i used a dry brush to remove the unwanted bits
This stuff dries within 30 minutes if you apply it with the airbrush
After this i flat coated everything using AK Ultra matte varnish

Image
20181217_003735 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181217_003747 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then started to assemble everything
The working idlers did their job as the tracks are nice and tensionned

Image
20181217_004757 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The cab and hoses are added aswell (can't see them from this angle, and it is a bit of a crappy photo)

Image
20181217_015934 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the glass for the M911 was placed
The ones in the doors where placed allready because they are sandwiched between the inside and outside of the doors (just like in real life ....that is a first  )

Image
20181217_020758 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The cab was assembled

Image
20181217_021440 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And placed on the chassis

Image
20181217_021821 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181217_022220 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the wheels where fitted
The final dusting can be done with the wheels on the tractor and trailer

Image
20181217_022602 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Nearly there

Image
20181218_005704 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181218_005712 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then added some grease and fuelstains

Image
20181218_015104 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
All the stowage was placed

Image
20181218_015117 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the blocks that go behind the tracks

Image
20181218_015125 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then painted all the reflectors and lights

Image
20181218_015139 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181218_015150 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Same here
And the tractors airhoses are placed

Image
20181218_141449 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Time to get dusty

Image
20181218_141453 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
With the help of a bit of pigment fixer i made some build up soil that is left of the tracks and blade

Image
20181218_143658 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Once all the dust was added i placed the dozer on the trailer and fixed the chains in place

Image
20181218_143702 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Hoses are connected

And then it was done i think
Image
20181218_143708 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20181218_143718 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The picture is just a temporary solution as i needed something to move this thing around without touching the model itself
I will be making something of a base later on .....sometime

And that is all i have for now
I will be posting some daylight pics in the gallery section
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

Oh and before i forget
Merry Christmas every one
