Hi guys!
One project nearly finished, time to start another.
This time the Revell Tornado F.3 ADV
I'm going to build this one out of the box with closed canopy.
Details on the parts are reasonable but they need a lot of cleaning.
So I think this would make an interesting build.
Here's the box art, and a pic of sprue mountain.

One of my fave aircraft! Looking forward to seeing how it comes together. What markings will you be doing?

I'm just coming to the end of building this kit, its not without it's challenges. ;)

I like a challenge...lol

First progress.
I started by adding the nose weight .
I used a iron ball that we have laying around at work, and these are around 40 grams what most instructions are asking for, so lucky me...

Image

Instead of gluing it in and wait for ever to dry, I glue in a piece of sprue to hold the ball in place.
This way I can remove it when necessary.

Image

Then the construction of the cockpit followed.

Image

Not going to display it with open canopy, so I'm not going to spent a lot of time detailing the cockpit.
The decals gives enough details

Image

The seats are looking great, great on details. Need to paint them up though.

Image

So far a good start, I will keep the updates coming!
Cheers, Frans

More progress..

Wings glued together and at the inside of them there's a complicated construction that allows the fuel tanks to stay straight when the wings are folded back. Great engineering but imo the more complex the model, more fragile it will be .

Image

The two cockpit halves together, always leaves a seam line. Now in stead of Sanding that line and paint that part black, I used adhesive cloth that is used for saddles of scale motor bikes. Seam line gone, and it does look fancy ...lol

Image

Image

Image

Wings added..

Image

Image

I started the engines and the top of the fuselage as we speak, but boy o boy... talking about fit issues there...
I will have to to some re shaping and filling, I will get back soon!

This is one I have recently got. Will be interested in how you find its going together, hear lots of various comments as to quality of parts/fitting. Two builds to go then will be on the bench with it :eeek:

It isn't a bad kit, but it definitely has some challenges...
Inside the wings there's some kind of lever construction witch can be very fiddly.
The top of the fuselage looks like it's 4mm too long, but maybe I did something wrong, solved it by cutting a small strip off the back ;)
Bit of filler was required as well..
If you are going to build it, test fit the parts before going glue crazy and you'll be fine.
Like I said, not a bad kit, but it needs attention :th:

Looks great so far. The HobbyBoss version that I built only allows you to build it with the wings unswept, so much simpler in that aspect.

Thank you.
This model does have the workable wings, but half way through the instructions you still have to choose for wings in or out.
But by cutting a piece of hull a bit further I managed to keep the wings working!
Thinking out of the book....lol

Boy oh boy oh boy...
This kit is testing my skills...
The fit of the upper hull that was 4mm too long wasn't the hard part and with some cutting and filling it was ok.
But the Air intakes.... my god.... the Air intakes are a nightmare :eeek:
Nothing fits correctly, and I had to cut away stuff and make the sides thinner. Even had to reshape some parts!
And off course, filler.... by the gallon.

Image

Image

But if you know me, I don't give up that easily!
Sanding....a lot of it, but I'm happy with the result.
Even if it means I lost some details, but it could be a lot worse!

Image

And here's how far I'm now...

Image

Image

Lets hope the rest of the build will be smooth sailing from here..
But I'm scared of building the landing gear now....lol

Stay tuned!

Wings are finished now.
Front slats up and rear are down.
Got to say, complex build but worth the effort.

Image

Image

With the slats down, it's impossible to fold the wings back, so after all my effort to keep the wings foldable I glued them in this steady position..

Image

Looking good so far,

See you next update !

I was thinking...
Should I add the reverse trust buckets or not..
Are they used only by landing? Hmmm.
For what I understand they can only be used when the plane is on all his wheels, so I think the could be used when the plane was parked . And I think its cool looking and hide the Seam line at the inside of the engines, so yeah! Let's do it.

Image

Kits version.

Image

I will paint them first, and glue them last.

Dry fit the landing gear as well.
Unclear instrucktions, good to have lots of reference pictures at hand.

Image

And last but not least,
Masked the canopy.
I will go for I closed canopy, but not sure jet.

Cheers, Frans

Cockpit as good as finished.
If I would build this kit again, I would go for after market seatbelts.
These moulded on things are crap..
But I'm going to close the canopy, so it's ok by me as it is now. ;)

Image

Image

Image

And I closed the canopy as I said I would do.
But I forgot to add the tiny rear view mirrors....lol
No not forgot, didn't like them and the are so tiny that they will be hardly visable.
So I decided to let them off.

Image

I think she will get her black Ultimate primer tomorrow :th:

That looks amazing. The flaps detail is far better than the HobbyBoss kit!

Thank you!
I was amazed myself, for a rather cheap Revell kit there's a fair amount of details!
