Dragon E100, Tamiya SdKFz 251 Stuka, Zvezda Tiger I E early

Post by andreb87 »

Hey guys here comes the second bunch of models which waited already assembled for some paint. As you can see i really used the weekend to get something done (my wife and daughter were away this weekend ;D ) i've never airbrushed that much before ... i have a blister on my finger tip because of the double action trigger :D 6 models in 2 days i thinks that's really enough! the e100 is from dragon, it was upgraded with the rhino turret. there is a deformation on the turret i think because of the sun :shhh: i'll figure out how to hide that. there is one fender with a different camouflage pattern, i won't weather this part as much as the rest of the tank to simulate a replacement. the e100 needs some color modulation but i'll do that in the future. the sdkfz 251 is an old tamiya kit (80s?) it was built out of box and yeah i don't want to put much effort in it. it simpy has to disappear from my stash :P the tiger I .... i'm really satisfied with this kit from zvezda .. it's a great kit for a cheap price! there was nearly no flash and the detail is really good. for the e100 i used the late war colors set from ak industries. for the tiger and the sdkfz 251 i used the german color set from ak interactive! i can highly recommend both of them! hope you like the models! :cheers2:

Really great start Andre, you're going to be picking out details until the end of time haha.
You've set yourself up nicely for lots of nice painting sessions. Those are my favourites, I love just sitting and painting tools or tyres.
Nice work buddy. :th: :th: :th: :th:

Nice paint work on all three.

Good to see the size difference too. This is the first time I've seen the E100 next to a Tiger - and that's a big tank itself

so after a long time .... here comes the update! i worked hard on the tiger! it is the budget kit from zvezda! detailling is not as good as for example a dragon kit but i think i did a good job on the kit and you dont see that it's a low budget kit. i love how this turned out it really looks like a kursk vehicle. muddy and dirty! i still have to paint the crew but that has to wait a few weeks =) hope you like it! i had a lot of fun building it!

Oh Wow Andre!!!! You took a real stinker of a kit and polished her up perfectly. It goes to show that you most certainly can polish a turd.
Well done buddy.
I love it!!!!

Luvly work my friend. I like the freehand Camo :) Now I kind of regret getting all those Camo-masks.

:th: i have a lot of those j's work masks here too! they are very nice but be prepared to use maskol and invest a lot of time! around etches and round parts you might need a bit maskol. it makes sense to use these masks for vehicles which received their camouflage pattern in the factory. mostly hard edge patterns. for vehicles which were delivered to the front only with a basecoat of dunkelgeld or dunkelgrau the crew did the camouflage mostly freehand in the field (with a brush or a spraygun) so it might be even more authentic to do it freenhand too in such a case. i will follow with interest what you do with the masks =) :cheers2:

Excellent work there Andre, the weathering and mud looks absolutely superb!! :th: :th: :th:

If you don't mind me asking, what products did you use for the mud effects.

for the mud i used several products from ak interactive / ammo for mig. I first pre dusted the lower hull and the wheels with dry mud color from ak. Then i mixed white spirit, plaster and earth effects from ak (enamel based). i mixed the 3 components with a brush and then i used the airflow of the airbrush to blast the mud on the wheels and the hull. on the pics these are the brighter mud effects. for the darker ones i used white spirit, plaster and dark mud effects from ak and did the same! finally i applied a bit of fresh mud from ammo of mig and dry pigments which were fixed with a little bit of white spirit. i read in a book that it is best to start with the lightest color and to end with the darkest. i don't know if that is true but i can say it worked well for me :thumb2:

Thanks Andre, really appreciate you taking the time to do a step-by-step.

And what you read must be true, as it definitely worked for you - looks really realistic! :cheers2:

thanks alex! i wanted to try something new! i think that's the most important thing for a modeller! we have so many products and techniques in our minds! but we only use the half of them because it's perfectly normal to repeat the techniques that worked well in the past! i'm glad i tried something new and i will continue with that on the geschützwagen tiger =) 'll try the oil paint rendering :) michael rinaldi talks a lot about that in his books!

Hey guys! coen this is for you =) it was screaming for a diorama ;) today i finished the painting of the base and i added the grass, painted it and adapted it to the color of the soil. i like how it turned out! i have to change the mud and dirt on the running gear a little bit because the base turned out a little different but thats not a big deal! should be done in a few minutes! sorry for the crack in the lense of my camera but you know that already :D the tiger should represent an early tiger of the leibstandarte adolf hitler during the battle of kursk, therefore the color of the soil has the typical kursk yellow! thanks to ak interactives enamel kursk soil that was an easy job! hope you like it! next step is to paint the figures! :cheers2:
