1/16 Bandai Lola

Post by DRUMS01 »

I built this car a couple years ago but never shared it here in the forum, no real reason, just forgot. I hope you all do not mind me sharing it now (?).

In 1966, starting from the outside of the 5th row, world champion but then Indy rookie Grahm Hill won the Indy 500 by leading the last 10 laps in this number 24 Red Ball Lola.

Molded in the early 70's, the original kit has long been out of production. This model is more "toy" like, with a electric motor (inside the engine case) and batteries where the cockpit is now and had around 35 parts. Every kit part was modified in some way. The entire front suspension and bulkhead, cockpit, rear suspension, exhaust, and majority of the engine was scratch built which increased the parts count to around 230. Materials used included brass rod, aluminum tubing, plastic sheet and tube, solder, lead foil, hardware store parts, hobby lobby jewelry parts, etc. The velocity stacks and some braided line are from after market-sources. Michael from "Indycals" worked with me to produce the wonderful decals. He still sells them now in various scales. I am overall happy with the nearly 1 year build, I hope you like it too.

Beautifully done she looks every bit a scale model and nothing like a toy now.
