Well, I'm going to give a month long build a try.
Here it is - Hasegawa's 1/72 scale F-14A

The kit decals are a bit yellowed and I'm not taking any chances.

Image

I normally avoid photo etch but since it came with the kit I'll give it a go.

PHOTO ETCH! I actually got it on without too much fuss! Although, the placement for the panels wasn't too clear and I think the right hand side is too far back.

Here's a little inspiration to get me building. Many years ago, when I still had hair, my wife and I went to San Diego for the IPMS national convention. Part of the package was a visit to the Miramar Naval Air Station - Top Gun!
Not too long after that they moved to Nevada.
Wasn't my fault.
Honest.

These are all scans of 3x4 prints.

Nice teeth, buddy.

And here's my wife looking all cool in the shade while I roasted out on the tarmac.

More work on the cockpit.

Tamiya Khaki paint and Mr Leveler Thinner brushes very nicely! A lot more to pick out on the seats and displays though.

And, as a bonus, my wife brought home a pile of these tea bag displays from work. Green spray paint on the back and could work as paint shelves!

Still working!

This part of the instructions is not very clear. Part D21 (and D20 on the opposite side) looks like it's in the right place but it seems to bow out and not settle in right.

Image

Here it is in place. I've since glued it in and it looks a bit better.

Image

More parts in. You won't see these unless you look into the vents on top of the plane.

Image

More work on the cockpit. It's a pain to get the last little stub of photo etch cleaned up - especially on the small parts!

Image

Coat of white primer on the insides!
