Hi all,
Finally completed my first ever build. It was supposed to be completely out of the box but the kit was lacking in some important areas resulting in a few extra mods. Its got a few mistakes and there are some bits I'm not happy with. It really stretched my abilities and patience at times but I'm super happy with the result and cant wait to get stuck into the next one!

1/20 Tamiya Ferrari F189 - #28 Gerhard Berger
Paint - Tamiya Acrylic
Clear Coat - Mr Color Super Clear III
Tamiya Seatbelt Kit
Bare Metal Foil
Scale Motorsport carbon decals
Evergreen 2mm rod for radiator hoses
Top Studio hose and wire clamps
Generic heat shrink
0.6mm fishing braid
Ciggy decals
Sprayed through an Iwata HP-CS .35mm

Cheers,
Andy

Looks great to me, nice job!

This kit is so cheap, very tempted to have a go at one myself.

I have one of these that I did about 15-16 years ago (iirc) and after seeing yours, I'm not sharing mine!! Fantastic job. Gerhard would approve!

Looks awesome!! I'm mid-way through building it myself - only my second ever build. Might have to nick your radiator hose design! The how did you get the Alcantara effect for the driver's seat? Also, did you sand down the moulded/raised seat belts?

Thanks Pete. The radiator hoses were done with 2mm evergreen rod. I just poured a little hot water over it to make it malleable. Little bit of generic blue heat shrink on the ends along with a top studio hose clamp. It makes a big difference, I don't think the car looks complete without them.

The seat was sanded down with a dremel to remove the moulded belts. I used a bullet shaped attachment which was quite coarse, this is actually what gives it the majority of the texture you can see. I then sprayed it using a fair bit more distance from the airbrush than I would normally, this made the paint dry a little before it hit the seat and gives it what a call a 'fluffy' finish. I practiced this on the inside of plastic spoons until I was confident. I then added a Tamiya 70's - 80's F1 seat belt kit.

Looking forward to seeing it when you are done!

Cheers, Andy

Thanks Andy

Will definitely go with all of the above, apart from the airbrushing as I don't have one, so I'll have to find an alternative solution for the seat finish. I've got to a point where I can't put off doing the radiators much longer, and I'm a bit short on ideas. Yours look great; how did you do them?

Cheers, Pete
