Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon 1B (Old Tooling)

Post by BrummieModeller »

So I thought id add a few photos of a work in progress I'm doing at the moment.

First of all this is one PIG of a kit!! :eeek: :eeek: :eeek:

Nothing fits right at all, raised panel lines, no cockpit detail, canopy is to small, no wheel well detail.

So I've done quite a bit of scratch building on this in the cockpit and wheel wells not perfect but better than what it was (wasn't worth buying aftermarket for this rubbish kit lol) but has needed a lot of filler!

So i'm up to this stage at the moment added the weathering wash and sealed it in :thumb1:

Dude for all you say that its crap, I think you have done a great job on it considering! The wheel well detail is spot on, yeah ok its possibly not accurate, but heck it looks like the inside of a wheel well to me! As I was telling you on FB, raised detail doesn't mean bad detail. That kit is covered in rivets etc, just like the real thing would be, and the wash has picked them out brilliantly!

Be proud of that dude, it will look great when finished.

Taking an old pig of a kit and turning it into a decent model is something I like doing also. This looks like it will turn out to be a cool little model once its done.

Tell you what Brum... I for one would not have the patience for a nightmare kit, but it does go to show that you can polish a t***! Lovely job mate.
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

I'm actually building the new tooling of this for a club build and the quality of the kit does seem to have dramatically improved.
With that said it does not stop yours looking a hell of a lot better than mine.
