I've moved this over from the recent WW1 Sig Here

As you know I didn't finish within the time scale due to work and my recent trip down under

I'm still struggling a little with bench time but more with the kit now, it's sapping my Mojo As I mentioned in the build log the kit is very poor in certain areas mainly where parts attach inner wing and under carriage struts have and still are being a real mare. There's almost nothing to attach them too, so getting them to stay where put at any kind of angle and not damaging the painted surfaces is proving very difficult.

I've also been very lazy with pictures of late, after fighting with the thing all I want to do is walk away

Upper wings now weathered got some more to do but I'll do that once it's attached.

Just seeing this; I see you’re in about the same position as me - not finishing the GB!

It’s looking great, I love the fuselage. I just posted my experience with the wing decals so I checked out your posts to see how you did it. Huh, in my build I said I should have done the uppers, first since they overlap onto the bottom; it looks like yours was just the opposite. I wonder which is right?

Anyway, I’m looking forward to see the final product (and completing mine )

Weathered the wings a bit to tone them down, some more to go but will complete once assembled.


Upper wing now rigged and ready to attach

More examples of the fit issues with this kit, the machine guns belt feed chutes are too big especially the the right hand side. I had to completely remove it to get the gun in, even then the whole thing is out of line. The location on the bulkhead must be out of alignment on the part, the bulkhead is fitted correctly it can only go one way. Also the lower wing rigging PE plate on the left wing fell off and has become a carpet monster victim


Fitted the under carriage, which was a nightmare again due to poor attachment points and the angle on the struts which means the only way to get the to fit flush to the fuselage is the have to be slight bent to get the wheel axle in

Started to weather the fuselage, still some way to go with that, but we're getting there

Hi Bob yes, I just didn't have the time. I think I've answered your wing decal question on your build thread, I think without the over banding your way looks better as you can't see the overlap from the top.

The kit has finally beaten me but not through lack or want of trying, the poor fit

I've been struggling with it for the last few weeks, after rigging the top wing it was time to fit the struts. The two outer one were ok the two inner ones either side of the fuselage the ends aren't angled in anyway to allow them to be located in the wing holes.

I was toying the with idea of drilling the fuselage to allow the struts to be fitted, but was stuck as to the angle required, as the holes in the wing are at 90* to the wing, this would mean enlarging them. Filling wasn't really an option as the wings were finished and this would have mean destroying their finish In the end I went for attaching the outer struts to the lower wing I then loose fitting the upper wing and turn the whole thing up side down, with a plan of attaching the inner struts one at a time, albeit balanced on the edge of the upper wing holes and just resting on the smallest of dimples on the fuselage mounting points. After much cussing and messing about I manged to get one on with the outer's as straight as possible then the trouble really started

When trying to fit the other side is was obvious they were both way too long , the upper wing is now pulled one side The other inner strut is now even longer and there's no way it's going to fit, plus even if it was the correct length it would fail the exhaust

Looks even worse with the bent under carriage struts




With the exhaust removed you can see just how much longer the inner strut is, the arrow in pointing to the location dimple

It's back in it's box now and that's the end of this build, it was hard enough with the lack of bench time but all the fit issues have really sapped at my Mojo. I'm sorry Eduard but, I'm really going to be thinking long and hard before I buy another of your WW1 aircraft kits

But all wasn't lost I built this kit as a way to gain experience building WW1 aircraft and for that it's served it's purpose. I don't think I've done too bad and had the fit been better, I think I would have produced a half decent result. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement they've all been very helpful

Onward and upwards I'm looking to my next build, I'm considering entering the Wheeled Vehicles GB
