Sprue glue as filler

Hi gents and ladies, keep hearing about sprue glue on this great site , my first question is will it fill very fine gaps , does it work going over primer or does it have to be over over bare plastic to work , also does it work with any thin cement , I normaly use tamiya extra thin but its my last bottle , but have got an old bottle of mr hobby mr cement s thin , last question how much chopped up sprue do you put in the bottle and how long due you leave it , silly guess but till its disolved ?.

I love this forum , I' ve been back modelling for about the last 10 years and you never stop learning and picking up tips.

You must understand one thing; you will need to let it cure... ( vent out ) "completely" cuz it softens the surrounding plastic as well while fusing everything together. I did use it in the past and "liked it"... I rather sand plastic more than putty.... putty shrinks! the Goop is liquid plastic so... it won't shrink once completely harden. Nowadays, I rather stretch some sprues over a small candle and use those filaments to fill gaps and use only styrene glue to a bare minimum! dries faster and you end up with the same idea! plastic on plastic! I’ve only used it over bare plastic so I’m not sure how it will perform over primer. But I guess it would work, depending on what the primer is.
You can use mr cement s, it’s what I started with. In fact I still have the same bottle and just add leftover tet as required.
How much sprue to add is up to you. Obviously you need enough to make it work, but less will be thinner, more will be thicker. It’s not an exact science but it’s easy enough to judge yourself.

Bare plastic is best. Just like tet sprue glue will cause paint to soften and become a mess. I only use it with tet so it will cure quicker. Curing time depends on how thickly it is applied. Large amounts will take 24hrs small thin applications can be worked with after a hour. I also tend to use the better type of plastic sprue ie.... easy to work with.
In some applications where for example your joining pipe frame work and sanding is going to be difficult tet brushed on with a old paint brush after the goo is applied can be used to smooth out the sprue goo.
