This will be next build. It will be built as an Indonesian AF Su-30.
With the Eduard Su-27UB cockpit set, I will only be using the un-painted PE parts.

Seats, missiles, undercarriage, exhausts, and pylons done.
Plastic canon barrel replaced with some metal tube.
Seat belts are Fine Molds plastic. Exceptional detail on them.
The added detail in the Kh-29 head, is the rear end of a 1/35 tank shell, painted gold.

Hi Ian,
nice cockpit.
One question, why not use the PE instrument panel? I can understand for the side panels as they can appear far too flat but I have had good experiecnes with the IPs.
Nevertheless, sure to be another excellent build.

Hi James
The IP’s are for the Su-27UB, which has the traditional dials. The Su-30 has MFD’s, hence using the decals.
I did buy a Wolfpack Design resin set, but I’ll be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the detail.

thanks for the clarification, it shows my ignorance.

Some pre-shading done, and the metal colours on the engine covers done.
Then the first camp colour applied, Hataka Orange Line Light Ghost Grey.

Blu-tac sausages used for masking the camouflage lines, ready for the darker grey. I use randomly shaped card, as opposed to spending ages with Tamiya tape. With care, it works well.
The masking tape was removed from the engine covers.
Everything is then given a gloss coat, ready for the decals. Speedbrake, and exhaust can are dry fitted for the photos.

Wow IanG, the camouflage came out fantastic!... I really like your attention to detail such as the cockpit, ordnance, panel lines, etc.
This will be a very nice build when complete.

Looks awesome mate
Quick question, what colour did you paint the cockpit?
I've never done a Russian jet and I'm going to start my yak-130 next but I'm not sure what colour to use (I have the Eduard pe cockpit set but can't find what colour they use)

Hi Mick
I used a “Blueish Grey", but tbh, it’s not dark enough. What I should have used is RLM76 Light Blue. It’s a darker blue grey, and a closer match. This seems to be the standard modern Russian cockpit colour nowadays.

Subtle but effective weathering Ian,
Is this an Indonesian aircraft?

I use a Nikon D4, with Nikkor 24-120 zoom, and 3 soft-boxes with LED daylight bulbs (one each side, plus one overhead). And of course the essential tripod.

Some subtle weathering done, and sealed with a couple of matt coats.
Missiles are also attached.
Now into the home stretch.
