Hi guys
This will be my first (and hopefully not the only) entry in this SIG
I will be building Dragon's Jagdpanther G2 for this
To make it look a bit different i will be adding some passengers and a crewmember

All the stuff that is in the kit and the camoscheme i want to apply
It looks to nicely detailed
The DS tracks are the older type wich is a bit darker then the newer type they make now
But i bought this kit just after it's release several years ago so it was new back then
Allthough i may end up replacing them
That all depends on my stash of old models
I keep them just in case i want to use stuff like Friul tracks on a newer build
So if there is a Panther in there with Friuls i will use those
And probably stuff like a metal antenna and some other small bits

But to dress this vehicle up i will also add some figures

As a little side note i actually ended up picking a couple more

And this figure set wich is a left over from the Coelian orange box kit (Cyber hobby)

So that is what i will be using for the build
My plan is to make the vehicle look a bit worn
Maybe paint up 1 or 2 wheels in different colors to make them look like replacements
Some fender damage (i don't do that very often) ,some effects with oilpaints and ofcourse a engine deck filled with figures

I started building allready and at first i though the 4 figures from the Panzer riders set would fill the back up quite well
Then i added the 3 other figures and there still was room
So in the end i will be adding a commander and 9 troops to the vehicle
Wich is a bit of a snugg fit but i have seen pictures of real vehicles where troops simply littered a tank to hitch a ride
So that was the basis of my idea

Anyway
That is all i have for now
I will post a update as soon as i have completed the building stage
Wich shouldn't take too long as it is quite a easy kit to build

While i was going through the stash to look for TD's that i could build i noticed this would be the easiest to start with
Other options where a Jagdpanther II (paperpanzer) ,Jagdtiger with various PE sets , RSO with a PaK 40 (tons of PE) ,Marder II (open topped) and a Nashorn (again open topped and several after market sets)
All of those are more complex to build and after the M1070 build i finished earlier this week i really want a build that was a bit easier
So it was easy to pick one

I test fitted the figures and it should fit
Or i just remove one if it doesn't fit when they have all their gear

I think it is time for the build update
Mostly because this kit really fitted my plan of a quick and easy build
Or in other words i finished building it ,as you may have seen on the ISM facebook page yesterday

It starts with fans and wheels
I skipped the roadwheels at this point

Then the torsionbar suspension
I didn't really bother with cleaning them up completly just the parts on the outside
Even though that won't be visible either with the overlapping wheels

The first step of the rear plate
I will add the exhausts later
They are the version with the big cans at the end and those will block my access to the other parts during the painting stage
Also it makes painting the exhausts themselves easier

The rearplate was fitted to the hull and the upper hull received some parts for the ventilation/grills

The grills are placed and all the small stuff was added aswell
Wich was quite a lot ,well more then a standard Panther anyway

The test fitting of the figures ,i did this to see how many and wich figures i can add to the rear of the vehicle

The last bits are added
Only PE parts but i had to use a clamp from my little after market box
It is just a little tub i use to hold stuff like antenna's ,PE clamps ,unopened ammo packs and that sort of stuff
The kit specific after market usually ends up inside the kits (if it fits)

At this point i missed the cover of the drivers periscope in the instructions
Added that later on

Then it was back to the rear with the parts for the back wall of the superstructure
I drilled a hole in the antenna mount so i can place a brass antenna from Aber in there

I could find full lenghts of Friul tracks but i do have a bag of seperate links
These are used for the spare tracks
I also added a piece of styrene rod for the track pins

After a little bit of modifying the spare tracks are placed
I had to carve out a bit of the track for the pins of the racks and sand down the sides of the racks as those are way too wide to fit inside the opening of the tracklinks
That is a problem of the styrene parts as the kit supplied tracks don't fit over them either

The roof was put together

Then the gun was put together
I didn't glue it in yet
This makes painting the gun and the part where the gun fits much easier

I hope you can see it but i sanded down the edges of the tyres to make thwm a bit more round
This makes it look a bit more worn

And on some tyres i made some cuts to simulate cracks and torn spots to add further wear and tear on them

And everything was placed on some foamboards ready for paint

The figures are still soaking in some degreaser so i don't have pictures of them yet
After i cleaned them i will need to do some filling and add all their gear ,pick their guns etc
Once that is done i can start painting
Allthough i started another kit for this SIG aswell so that may take a while
But not too long

That's looking really nice so far - the PE mesh really makes a difference, and I love how many figures you're going to put on there.

Mark your ability to build never ceases to amaze me it's all coming along very nicely mate

I agree the PE helps a lot ,it is a part of what made me collect Dragon kits
Well when i did anyway ,these days i find them too expensive for what you get in a kit

I have to say that the kit almost falls together
If there wasn't any PE in there i would think it was a bit too easy
Atleast for a modeller that has a couple of years of building behind him
I think it would even be a nice kit for someone who is rather new to the hobby
Except for the instructions that is
Those are still the same quality as ever allthough better then the ones for the Nashorn i am building now
It has pretty bad pictures/photographs instead of drawings

I don't know if it is close to being finished though
Painting and weathering the vehicle should be fairly quick once i actually start
The figures however ,well i think they may take up as much time as the vehicle
Not really a problem i think
But before i start painting i want to finish building a second entry
It is the Nashorn but i am still working on that and j will be posting a thread for that soon

That came together quickly - beautiful clean work as always Mark.

I love the little touches and attention to detail like the little nicks in the tyres.

I think i picked that up in a book
One of the Tank art or FAQ books
They offered a example of a pretty beat up vehicle
But when you had a closer look at the wheels then you could see they looked brand new
They where dirty but they still had a fairly sharp angle on the corners and even some threading on them (i think it was a T-34/76 or 85)
That is okay to have on a new or not that much used vehicle but if you depict a vehicle chipped all over , has several fender pieces missing and quite a bit of rust it gives the impression that it has been around for a couple of years
And details like the tyres would show that

Allthough i have to admit i do forget to do this from time to time

Nice tip! I'll need to keep that in mind.

It works best on vehicles with thicker tyres like the German Panzer III, IV ,38(T) ,Panther and Tiger chassis and ofcourse some Allied stuff like the T-34/76 and 85 and Hellcats to name a few
Vehicles like the Sherman with VVSS (old style of suspension) have pretty thin tyres so it is harder to do on those kind of wheels
But all in all it is a easy way of adding a bit of intrest and you can give those damaged areas a different color of pile up some dust or dirt in there
You could even do it on tracks with rubber pads as those wear down aswell

Looks great. Cant wait to see the paint go on and all those figures too

I still need to clean them at the moment
But they have been soaking in some degreaser so all the old paint should be peeling off by now
The plan is to finish the figures for my other build and clean these figures so i can do all the priming for both entries at once
And then start painting

Just a tiny little update for now
I have started the painting part of the Jagdpanther build
So far only the vehicle has been painted but it isn't completely done yet
But atleast the progres that i made some pics of shows how it will look in the end

The tri tonal camoflage is done with a base of Aqueous sail color for the yellow
This resembles the later war DG III quite well
The green is Tamiya dark green mixed with a bit of buff
And the red brown is also Tamiya with a bit of buff added in the mix

At the moment it still looks a bit darker then what i wanted
But the weathering with oilpaints should make it look a bit lighter

The next step was detailpainting
I actually did most of it but for now i only have a shot of the wheels

I started out with adding bare metal chipping on the centre wheels
These rub against the horns of the tracks so they will loose their paint
I used Andrea paint in the color "steel" and applied it with a sponge

The next step was the rubber
I started out with a base of Vallejo black
This will be drybrushed later on with either dark rubber (Vallejo panzer aces range) or german grey (modelcolor) to make them look a bit worn

And that is about it for now
I also did some other detailpainting but i haven't gotten around to photograph everything yet
I have been a bit busy lately but i wanted show i haven't abandoned my builds yet (i don't plan on doing so either)

So i hope to make some decent progres in the upcoming week and post a update soon when the painting and decals are done

I used several kinds of paint
The dark yellow is mr hobby color Aqueous H403 dark yellow mixed with some H85 (i think) sail color wich is similar to Tamiya's buff but slightly darker
The dark green is Tamiya dark green mixed with buff
The red brown is also Tamiya but the red brown and again mixed with buff
The metal is a acrylic made by Andrea (a spanish figure manufacturer) they have their own paint line
They are somewhat similar to Vallejo but much more pigments and way thicker
The color is base steel from the Silver paintset
The black is Vallejo modelcolor black (950)

I have seen it on a couple of models
Allthough they most often had a silver rim instead of a chipped rim
But i don't like that look so i decided to just make it chipped instead
I hope to get back to this build in a couple of days and make some progres on this
As the last time i was at the bench the Nashorn was the main project that i worked on
But i am almost done painting that one so this should be completely painted soon

Yep i know ,but i have been very busy lately and i will be for the next couple of weeks
So i am pretty sure i won't be able to finish both my entries
So instead of trying to finish both i will be putting the Nashorn (resuply) build on hold for now and i will try to finish this one
As it stands now it is painted and has a wash
And the figures are about halfway painted (just their gear and guns left to do)
I knew i would busier at work for the past couple of months but no one expected the madhouse (restaurant actually ) we had to work in for the past couple of months
It was far busier then we had thought so i basicly life really got in the way and i had set some pretty ambicious goals with 2 builds and 1 of them being a diorama

Anyway i will be doing my best to finish this build and hopefully i will be able to finish it just in time

I'm not sure I'm going to get mine done before the deadline which is a little embarrassing but we all know life takes over sometimes.

Hope you do get chance to get it done as I'm really looking forward to seeing it whenever it's finished off

Well it is finished
And the pics are in the reveal section .....with a whopping 2 minutes to spare before the official ending of the sig
Now i just need to finish up the buildthread of this one and my entry in the in the Wheeled GB
But that is something for tomorrow
First it is time to clean the bench and get some sleep
