I know this has most likely been a popular model subject shown here over the years, but I started this while waiting for after market supplies. It came with the Tamiya 1/16 Kubelwagen kit. Since he is not going to be part of the kit display I finished him separately and I'm presenting him here for your review and feedback.

When researching his uniform and colors, I found many different choices. One of our fine members, gave me some insight on the changes to officer uniforms over the war which helped a lot, some of it can be seen here: http://moebius.freehostia.com/hatsofficers.htm Thanks to his information and actual photos I located of Romell in the gray uniform, this is the most accurate version I could create.

The paints are all acrylics from Vallejo and Testors MM. Washes to provide depth of color (wrinkles and creases) and dry brushing was done for bring out the highlights. The medals and badges on his left pocket were sourced on the after market. These were valided on numerous pictures and his military history. The skin was painted with acrylics, water colors, and pastels. The boots were painted semi-gloss black but the wrinkles were highlighted in flat black. The stripes on his pants were originally decals from the kit. When applied they were terribly off color and looked like a decal. I hand painted over the decal with Testors MM flat red which also match the collar and shoulder boards. The gold piping on the cap was done with a sharpie marker. My plan is to still place him on a figure base with a glass cover.

The final results are to show how he appeared at Sword Beach in May of 1944. I hope you enjoy the presentation as much as I enjoyed building him. As always, your comments are welcome, .... fire away.

Thanks Scott

Thanks Kev Dog

Not sure how much of a diorama I will do as I'm working on a larger one with my kubelwagen. It is the first time I tried the acrylic, watercolor, and pastel combination on skin but I was kind of happy with the results.

I looked at both figures and you really do have a way with leather....looks fantastic. The other materials are done well too, but I particularly liked the leather .
