The dragonfly odonopter type one

Greetings fellow space cadets!

This is space cadet #19 reporting for duty!

So on with the show. This is the little gem that will
Grace the work bench for the next three months...



Industria mechanika is a third party recaster of
Original one off designs produced in collaboration
With these kits original designers. They specialise in
The more unusual “what if” concept rather than the
Mainstream spaceship/mecha mass produced by the
Big manufacturers such as Bandai, Tamiya ect. They
Actively encourage modellers to submit designs and
And get these kits out into the world.

One designer I have chosen for this project build is
Michael Fichtenmayer (AKA Fichtenfoo) Dragonfly
Odonopter type one. This kit in particular is a third
Edition 22/100 production kit that is multimedia
Consisting of resin, photo etch, styrene and glass with
Some wire thrown in. The parts breakdown is
Surprisingly simple with the 40 resin parts crisply
Moulded with little to no flash...













Next we have four frets of sturdy, detailed P.E for
The wings and other fittings/greebles ...



Clear film for the wing inserts....



Two pieces of domed glass for the main optics
And only one... yes one page of instructions...

Oh no, we are not done yet as we will be
Adding to this kit a little twist of my own
That with give a little steampunk/fighter
Aircraft flare. Sneak peak at the extras...







Now this is by no means an original concept as I
Discovered recently (not as clever as I thought lol)
But this will be my interpretation of a what if WW1
Aircraft with a bit of my own concepts thrown in.

Now I’m off to start cleaning up the resin parts.

Thought I’d better do some work on the project as I’ve been procrastinating sadly
Because..... the boss got me (finally) to watch “Game of Thrones”. And yes very
Late to the party but I’ve binge watched 6.5 seasons over the last week and now
I need to escape it for a bit as....... so I’ve been tolled..... have been yelling at the
Screen and my dogs think I’ve gone a little strange because nothing is there!

Sooooooo........

Starting with the the resin parts, by cleaning up the tabs and small amount of flash/seams
On these well molded parts. Now a top tip for anyone working with resin is get some of those
Disposable masks from your local chemist/hardware shop as you don’t want to be breathing
That resin dust when fileing and sanding. Now once I was happy with the fit and shape of those
Parts it was time to wash them thoroughly. This is very important to get rid of the mold release
Agent used during casting. So the parts soaked in lukewarm water and detergent for half an hour
Then using a soft toothbrush, scrubbing the parts until they lost that glossy look, rinsed then
Left to air dry.





Now this kit is quite long and thin with not a lot of structural rigidity and being as you
Have to use C.A glue to join the parts, the torsion strength is not great. So a good solution
To this problem is pinning the parts with brass rod to reinforce the joins for the load bearing
Parts along a little hollowing out of the ball joints....











Now pinning the knees of the leg joints give a twofold effect by increasing the structural
Integrity of the joint as well as allowing it to be positionable before glueing into final pose.





So all in all a productive day. Now I’m off for a beer and the Canadian Grand Prix.....
