Tamiya Panzer IVJ late/final

Post by Strohmann »

Building Tamiya IVJ with late/final style features. So far I have Aber 35L48, Griffon Model L35A096 Exhaust set, Eduard 35595 Mesh Schurzen set, MK SK-27 tracks, and a LionMarc MG barrel for the bow machine gun.

Yep, time to get out the JLC saw and the putty.

The gunners view thingy left of the gun has to go and the bow plate needs to be cleared. I stole the late style hull extenders from an old 90's Dragon kit.

Thanks. So far the hardest part was carving out the gun breech(?) to get the Aber barrel to fit.

Can't wait to get to the PE mesh armor. :- )

Finished sanding where the gunners view port was.

Then put the last bits on the gun barrel.

Got the turret together. Just needs sanding on the side of the gun recuperator housing and the top of the shurzen support hangers.

Next stop is probably the late version exhausts. My order of Gator's Grip glue should come soon. I'm thinking that might be less of a circus than CA glue.

Stronger? I'm not sure if it's much stronger than the blue capped one but it is faster. I can just dab a bit on the track pin or some small part with a small paint brush and it sets up fast and it doesn't melt any surrounding detail. It goes to 11.

Hello again.

The polycaps in the drive sprockets were making them sit crooked so I had to do some surgery.

The Gator's Grip glue finally came. I tested it. The thin seemed weak but the normal works well.
Image

So I started on the mesh skirts.

Looks like an exciting project. I've a set of modelkasten tracks for a panther and they look like a massive pain.

I'm about half way through putting them together. I found that dropping them on the floor and swearing is good method to simulate battle damage and wear.

that's usually the way most PE stuff gets built: plenty of swearing, a little bloodshed and maybe a burnt finger or two if you're soldering. :D

This build looks amazing so far though - reallly interested to see where you go with it.

The screens are done. The Loctite precision pen thingy was rather handy.
Image

The late style exhausts are on. Kind of fiddly but it's done.

I got some wire for the tow cable as Tamiya just give you a piece of string.

That's all for now.

I put some plastic rod on the exhausts with gator's grip to start making the weld seams. I think I bought it by mistake a long time ago but the rods are thin enough for this task.
